Supernatural Season 14 Episode 7 Review: Unhuman Nature
Lisa Babick at . Updated at .You've come a long way, Baby!
Sam took the words right out of my head on Supernatural Season 14 Episode 7 when he verbalized how Jack's sickness was affecting Dean.
When Jack was born, Dean wasn't keen on keeping Lucifer's son around and fought Sam tooth and nail about it. He wanted him dead. Sam wanted to give him a chance.
It's taken time, but Dean has warmed up to the kid in a much bigger way than we could have ever expected.
Letting Jack drive Baby was a huge moment -- and a much better option for Jack than taking off to Tahiti by himself.
Jack has always looked up to Dean. From the very beginning, he took to Dean more than he did Sam. And it wasn't just because he wanted to change Dean's mind about him.
It could be that he thought Dean was the cooler brother and wanted to be like him, but sometimes people take to one person over another, and Dean was his guy.
It annoyed Dean, but he realized that Jack was trying very hard to not be like his father. Jack was genuine about it. He wasn't trying to fight some evil inside him. He wanted to be a decent person and prove that the apple could fall very far from the tree.
Jack has become like a brother to Dean so watching Jack fight for his life wasn't something Dean wanted to witness.
Dean might not be quick to admit it, but Jack is a lot like him. He figures things out on his own, and he doesn't want to be a burden to anyone.
Jack also came to the conclusion that if he didn't have a lot of time to live, he wanted to at least live which is why he came up with the Tahiti idea.
Dean wasn't going to let Jack go anywhere, but he also understood how Jack felt which is why Dean took him out for the greatest day of his life.
I'm getting that life isn't all about these big amazing moments. It's time together that matters.
Jack
And while Jack got his fill of a fast car and fast food, he also turned the tables on Dean by choosing to go fishing instead of a night of boozing and women.
Dean learned something from Jack at that creek -- it's not where you are that makes you happy but who you're with that makes all the difference.
Words of wisdom.
I got the feeling that the shaman knew that Gabriel's grace wasn't going to heal Jack. The guy seemed shady from the start, but desperate times call for desperate measures, and the gang was all out of ideas.
The shaman had ulterior motives for wanting Jack to ingest Gabriel's grace. There's something bigger going on here, and I'm wondering if it has something to do with Lucifer rising.
Maybe the shaman can see the future. He may be a healer, but he might have the gift of sight as well.
Perhaps having a good archangel's grace in him will help Jack when Lucifer comes calling again.
The whole situation with Nick had me wondering if Lucifer chose him not because he was at a low point but because he was always a bad man deep inside.
I understand the overwhelming rage about the murder of his family, but ordinary people don't go around killing people with hammers because they don't like the answers people give them.
Nick could have devil remnants in him which is causing him to have these reactions, but what Nick is doing is vicious. Those tendencies were always there which is why I think Lucifer chose him in the first place.
It doesn't matter much anymore because Lucifer is about to return thanks to Nick's desperate prayers and Lucifer's reawakening in The Empty.
When Nick got down on his knees, I thought he was going to confess to killing his own family and ask for God's forgiveness, maybe turn over a new leaf and get some help.
There is a devil, and we should try to fight him, but sometimes we just can't.
Nick
I never expected him to want Lucifer to return, but it makes sense. Lucifer had been part of him for such a long time; he no longer remembers who he was before.
If Lucifer decides to take Nick's body back, Lucifer is going to be a different kind of devil. He might be the devil we all imagine the devil to be. There won't be any snapping of the fingers to make people disappear.
Lucifer is going to incorporate Nick's new viciousness into his being, and he's going to be nastier than ever which all circles back to why the shaman wanted Jack to have Gabriel's grace.
Things are about to become a whole lot worse for Jack and everyone around them.
Other Thoughts:
- Every moment of the trio's interaction with the emergency room nurse was pure gold.
- Dean's dizzy spells are concerning. Does this mean that Michael is on his way back? And was there some correlation between his spells and Nick's dizzy spells?
- Was anyone else creeped out by what Nick did to the priest? That's old school Satan stuff there.
- Why isn't the trio concerned about Nick and where he is and what he's doing? Could Jack's sickness be happening as a distraction for them so Lucifer can rise again?
