David Cook Album Update: Producer Hired, Songs Considered

The debut album from American Idol winner David Cook is due some time this fall.

The rocker has been hard at work in the studio in the meantime, as Entertainment Weekly reports he's working with producer Rob Cavallo. He's best known for assisting Green Day on its Grammy Award-winning album American Idiot.

"I think he's a great producer with the kind of sound that I want," Cook said. "And in talking to him, he's just a good guy. Like the song selection I had on the show, Rob just fit."

What a Performer

As for songs to be included on the CD, Cook wants to remain true to himself. One would assume this would mean the cheesy ballad he sang to close American Idol, "The Time of My Life," wouldn't make the album's final cut.

"My goal is to make a cohesive record, and I don't want any song to stick out like a sore thumb," the singer said. "But in every meeting that I've had with 19 [Management] and RCA [Records], they've been very supportive of what I want to do with my record."

I’m writing in the paper that Kingfisher is on the verge of bankruptcy … which it is. The next morning, I get slapped with two lawsuits from Natey Flint. He takes out a liable suit against the Sunrise Herald and a one-million-dollar liable suit against me.

Stacey: Do you know of any fires in this area?
Frank Kovick: There was one in ’41.
Stacey: There was one in ’41? Where?
Frank Kovick: In Sunrise.
Stacey: Sunrise…
Frank Kovick: It was huge, it destroyed most of the town.
Stacey: Really?!
Frank Kovick: Founders Day fire. They called it the “Miracle Fire” because nobody died.
