Angels Memorial Hospital is closing its doors for good at the end of Code Black Season 3.
CBS has canceled the medical drama, according to creator and showrunner, Michael Seitzman.
He took to Twitter late on Wednesday night to announce the show's fate.
"Dear #CodeBlack fans, the sad news came today that we were canceled. It's been a true joy to make this show and watch your response every week," the emotional tweet begins.
"Thank you for all of your passion. Truly, our best episodes have yet to air. We hope you'll watch and enjoy them. We made them for you."
Code Black has spent much of its life on the bubble. It's never been a heavy hitter in the ratings, and the huge delay between Code Black Season 2 and Code Black Season 3 meant the show was very likely entering its final season.
The current season is averaging 5.4 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in adults 18-49. In the demo, the show is down almost 30 percent year-to-year.
Erosion was likely when you consider the 14 months break the show went on after Season 2.
There are still nine episodes left in Code Black Season 3, and given that the show usually wraps up most of its storylines at the end of the season, it's likely there won't be a lot of threads left dangling.
In fact, Seitzman shared another tweet which should give a lot of fans some faith to watch through the end.
No way. This season finale was written to be a series finale. You won't want to miss it. https://t.co/JOm7y61R7p— Michael Seitzman (@michaelseitzman) May 24, 2018
Code Black was the sole CBS show still awaiting word on whether it will return in the 2018-2019 season.
It joins a list of cancellations that include Kevin Can Wait, Superior Donuts, Scorpion, Living Biblically, Me, Myself and I, 9JKL and Wisdom of the Crowd.
There's no word yet on whether the series will be shopped to other networks, but in the current climate, it's unusual for a show to cheat death.
