Spock is the first half-human, half-Vulcan, office to serve in Starfleet. The son of Sarek and Amanda Grayson, he grew up on Vulcan with his adopted sister, Michael Burnham. He was the victim of discrimination due to his mixed heritage as well as a learning disability.

He serves aboard the USS Enterprise as the Chief Science Officer under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. He is engaged to the Vulcan, T'Pring, an administrator and treatment specialist at the Vulcan rehabilitation colony Ankeshtan K'til, helping inmates whose uncontrolled emotions led them to become criminals back on the way of logic.

He has developed romantic feelings for Christine Chapel.
