Chicago Justice Season 1 Episode 1 focuses on the brutal murder of a Muslim PhD student. Danny was strangled, brutalized and beaten after he was already dead.

A white classmate, Dylan, is on trial for the murder but he professes his innocence and eventually a Muslim woman comes forward and admits she was with him on the night of the killing. The investigation then turns to Jaffar, Danny's roommate. Jaffar claims Danny did not allow him to live with him after he broke up with his girlfriend, but the girlfriend says the relationship lasted a month and Jaffar was very paranoid about Danny stealing his work.

Jaffar is arrested at school and is put on trial for murder. Both attorneys choose people who are considered patriots and likely anti-Muslim for the jury.

When a Muslim eyewitness testifies, O'Boyle tries to make her remove her head covering. Failing that, he attacks her for her religious wearing of the covering. Shortly after, he puts Jaffar on the stand -- and Jaffar says that he killed Danny to prevent him from committing a terrorist act!
