Daniel Pierce is dating his doctor, Caroline. He has been on medication for nine months since turning himself in for help.

Kate Moretti's soon to be ex-husband, Donnie, is transferred to Chicago. He asks her to ask Pierce to help with a case.

A biker kills his wife in a jealous rage and while being detained by the police he shoots himself. The bullet causes his brain to act like a different person.

Pierce concludes that the biker shouldn't be on trial. The brother of the girl the biker killed admits that he should be let free.

Pierce starts having hallucinations after he slowly starts taking himself off the meds to prevent the minor tremors.

The biker is murdered by the brother.

Pierce continues to see Natalie, his hallucination, despite also trying to form a relationship with the real, Caroline.
