Recap

Vern breaks into the Philcott house to learn if his father-in-law was a murderer.

Alma tries to pass it off with Isabel's confession. He tells her about one of his photos, possibly that the killer took it from her.

When Alma wonders how a killer could access these drugs, Alma runs upstairs for Bertram's diary. Isabel took in Carlo's cat to Bertram the day that Carlo was killed. Vern is not letting Alma off of the hook, and the way that Alma speaks to him will no doubt make him even more curious.

Alma wants to kill Vern.

Alma gets the call that Bertram has been shot.

Dee tells Vern she's running to the store for eggs. They've both got things to tell each other.

Unfortunately, Detective Roman is waiting for Dee. He takes her to the station to chat about Mrs. Yost.

Rita tried getting money from Catherine for Scooter but discovered that she's flown the coop and padlocked the house.

Rita is taking off, too. Word has gotten out that Scooter was a kept man and asks if he'd join her in New York. They kiss, and he ruins the moment by suggesting he could be a writer.

Vern's landlord tells him about Dee to complain about renting to shady characters.

Bertram's flash caught the slug, and he wasn't shot at all. Bertram's drinking problem came in quite handy, the doctor laughs.

Alma wakes Bertram with her bad news, including that they need to kill Vern.

Bertram goes back to sleep.

Alma tries wracking her brain for potential assassins to help her, and just then, Rita exits Scooter's room.

Alma goes to see Scooter. Alma tells him that Scooter's baby is his. Scooter blanches.

Alma steals one of the cufflinks before leaving the room.

They found Dee's fingerprints on all of the valuables she put back into Mrs. Yost's house.

She decides to lie. But he knows she's covering for someone. He brings up her parents just before Vern bursts into the room.

Vern and Det. Roman fought together in Marseille, and Vern carried the detective for a mile under enemy fire. He's using that card.

Vern and Dee both know things about her parents that the other doesn't.

Alma runs into Mavis outside of a gun shop. Alma has moved the garden club vote for president up to tonight. She's running unopposed, so why not? She has it all planned.

Bertram is home, and Alma has a gun.

Alma is going to shoot Vern tonight. Alma has it planned that they'll blame Scooter for Vern's death.

Scooter isn't happy about Rita keeping the secret of his baby from him. If Dee doesn't need him, maybe his kid does. She hopes that he'll meet her at O'Dwyer's Tavern around six to give her the score. Geez, Rita, he says. I really wish you'd told me about the baby.

Dee cannot believe what Vern is telling them. She can't believe anything he's saying, and she wants him to keep the secret. She's an accessory after the fact until he tells them the truth. Does she want their baby born in jail?

She says no. She's gotta think about it. She's gotta figure this out.

Dee runs into Scooter on the street. He has brought a teddy bear for the baby.

Rita is sitting on a park bench with two tickets when Grace spots her. Grace is embarrassed how the club turned on her, especially now that she understands betrayal. Grace has left the club, mostly because she can't sit through Alma's inauguration.

Rita is surprised that Alma is a social vampire. And then Grace plants the seed. No one benefited more from Rita going to jail than Alma.

Bertram calls Vern to drop by the clinic to ask any questions he might have.,P> Dee didn't want to keep Scooter from his dreams. He considers not going to New York, but she says to go. He hopes that she'll tell their kid about Scooter when he's older.

Scooter tells her that Alma told him about the baby. Dee goes directly to her parents to talk about it. Alma is wearing a long red number with a white stole.

Dee wants to know why Alma told Scooter. And then, she reveals that she talked with Vern. Their discussion does nothing to prove that Alma didn't do what Vern charges.

When Bertram gets to the clinic, Bertram has left his box of treasures out on the desk. Vern doesn't understand. Bertram offers them both a drink.

Scooter goes to the tavern to look for Rita, but she's not there.

There is paparazzi outside of the garden club event. Alma is thrilled.

But Rita interrupts, asking her to meet behind the restaurant.

Bertram and Vern are chatting. Bertram says that Alma would want him to spin one more lie, and then he pulls the gun on Vern.

Rita has sussed out that Alma killed Carlo and framed her. Alma isn't surprised that it took Rita so long. Women like her always underestimate women like Alma, who just want to be seen.

Rita figures out that Alma killed Rita, too, and plans on announcing it to the world. Alma grabs an ice pick and kills her.

Alma gives a speech about scandal and lifts her arm to reveal her stole is covered in blood. She decides to leave and go home just as Scooter arrives looking for Rita.

Alma gets home to a home lit by candlelight. He took the blame for all of it. For every death. He told Vern that he was guilty of all of it. If she had killed Vern, she would have been caught. He also asked Vern to say goodbye before he calls the police. Vern will help himself like he's spared so many others so that she can be spared the trial. Then he notices the blood on her stole.

Bertram offers to take Alma with him. She agrees.

As the sirens blare in the background, he puts on music. Everyone deserves a beautiful death—even them.

After he injects himself, Alma pulls out. She can fix it! She's good at thinking on her feet. Beauty is nice, but it's so much better to be clever and maybe just a little bit ruthless.

Dee and Vern arrive to Bertram's dead body. Alma is fixing Bertram's glasses. She wanted a little memento, and she's placed a tag on it.

Alma is the most famous murderess in American history. She revels in the glory, imagining that she's at a premiere instead of walking to her death.
