New Show Watch 2019-20: All New Shows Coming to The Big 5

Upfronts don't seem to have the same feel that they did in years past, but that doesn't mean what's coming to broadcast television isn't worth watching.

1. 9-1-1: Lone Star - FOX

From 9-1-1 co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, 9-1-1: LONE STAR follows a sophisticated New York cop (Rob Lowe) who, along with his son, re-locates to Austin, and must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in his own life. Lowe will serve as co-executive producer on the series.

2. All Rise - Drama - CBS

All Rise is a drama that follows the dedicated, chaotic, hopeful, and sometimes absurd lives of judges, prosecutors, and public defenders as they work with bailiffs, clerks and cops to get justice for the people of Los Angeles amidst a flawed legal system. Series stars include Simone Missick, Wilson Bethel, Jessica Camacho, Marg Helgenberger, J. Alex Brinson, Lindsay Mendez, and Ruthie Ann Miles.

3. The Baker and the Beauty - Drama - ABC

The Baker and the Beauty centers on Daniel Garcia (Rasuk), who is working in the family bakery and doing everything that his loving Cuban parents and siblings expect him to do. But on a wild Miami night he meets Noa Hamilton (Kelley), an international superstar and fashion mogul, and his life moves into the spotlight. Will this unlikely couple upend their lives to be together and pull their families into a culture clash?

Victor Rasuk, Nathalie Kelley, Carlos Gomez, Dan Bucatinsky, Lisa Vidal, Belissa Escobedo, Michelle Veintimilla and David Del Rio star in the romantic comedy drama.

4. Batwoman - Drama - The CW

Kate Kane is a highly trained streetfighter tasked with snuffing out the failing city's criminal resurgence. Her father, Jacob's mission is to protect Gotham better than the Dark Knight ever could. Ruby Rose and Dougray Scott star with Rachel Skarsten (Reign) as Alice, the Joker-esque leader of the Wonderland Gang; Meagan Tandy (Teen Wolf) as military academy graduate Sophie Moore; Camrus Johnson (Marvel’s Luke Cage) as Lucius Fox’s son, Luke; and Nicole Kang (YOU) as Kate’s step-sister, Mary Hamilton.

5. Bluff City Law - Drama - NBC

Bluff City Law is a character-driven legal drama that follows the lawyers of an elite Memphis law firm that specializes in the most controversial landmark civil rights cases. Led by legendary lawyer Elijah Strait (Smits) and his brilliant daughter, Sydney Keller (Caitlin McGee), they take on the toughest David-and-Goliath cases while navigating their complicated relationship. After barely speaking to her father for years, Sydney is suddenly thrust back into the family fold when her philanthropist mother passes away unexpectedly. In the wake of her loss, hoping to reconnect with the daughter he loves, Elijah asks Sydney to rejoin his firm. Other stars include stars Scott Shepherd, Barry Sloane, Michael Luwoye, MaameYaa Boafo, Stony Blyden and Jayne Atkinson.

6. Bob Hearts Abishola - Comedy - CBS

In Bob Hearts Abishola, after having a heart attack, a middle-aged sock businessman from Detroit unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant, and sets his sights on getting her to give him a chance. The cast includes Billy Gardell, Folake Olowofoyeku, Christine Ebersole, Matt Jones, Maribeth Monroe, Shola Adewusi, Barry Shabaka Henley, and Travis Wolfe, Jr.

7. Broke - Comedy - CBS

On Broke, Jaime Camil stars with Pauley Perrette, Natasha Leggero, Izzy Dias, and Antonion Corbo when an outrageously wealthy trust fund baby is cut off by his father, he and his wife move into her estranged sister’s Reseda home, forcing the two siblings to reconnect.

8. Carol's Second Act - Comedy - CBS

Patricia Heaton stars on Carol's Second Act when, after raising her two children and retiring from teaching, Carol Chambers embarks on a unique second act: pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. Other cast include Kyle MacLaughlan, Ito Aghayere, Jean-Luc Bidoleau, and Sabrina Jalees.

9. Council of Dads - Drama - NBC

When Scott, a loving father of four, has his entire life’s plan thrown into upheaval by a cancer diagnosis, he calls on a few of his closest allies to step in as back-up dads for every stage of his growing family’s life. Scott assembles a trusted group of role models that includes Anthony, his oldest friend; Larry, his AA sponsor; and Oliver, his surgeon and best friend to his wife, Robin. These men agree to devote themselves to supporting and guiding Scott’s amazing family through all the triumphs and challenges life has to offer – just in case he ever can’t be there to do so himself. The cast includes Sarah Wayne Callies, Clive Standen, Tom Everett Scott, J. August Richards, Blue Chapman, Emjay Anthony, Michele Weaver, Thalia Tran, Steven Silver and Michael O’Neill.

10. Deputy - Drama - FOX

Deputy stars Stephen Dorff. When the Los Angeles County’s Sheriff dies, an arcane rule forged back in the Wild West thrusts the most unlikely man into the job: a fifth-generation lawman, more comfortable taking down bad guys than navigating a sea of politics. He leads a skilled team of ambitious and complicated human beings who won’t rest until justice is served. Other stars include Yara Martinex, Brian Van Volt, Siena Goines, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Shane Paul McGhie, and Mark Moses.

11. Emergence - ABC - Drama

Emergence centers around a police chief (Allison Tolman) who takes in a young child (Alexa Swinton) that she finds near the site of a mysterious accident who has no memory of what has happened. The investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the child's identity is at the center of it all.

Allison Tolman, Alexa Swinton, Owain Yeoman, Ashley Aufderheide, Robert Bailey Jr., Zabryna Guevara, Donald Faison and Clancy Brown star in the thriller.

12. Evil - Drama - CBS

Evil is a psychological mystery that examines science vs. religion and the origins of evil. The series focuses on a skeptical female forensic psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a carpenter to investigate and assess the Church’s backlog of supposed miracles, demonic possessions, and unexplained phenomena. Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, Aasif Mandvi, Michael Emerson, Brooklyn Shuck, Skylar Gray, Maddy Crocco, and Dalya Knapp star.

13. FBI: Most Wanted - Drama - CBS

The series is centered on the Fugitive Task Force of the FBI that tracks and captures the notorious criminals on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. Stars include Julian McMahon, Alana de la Garza, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Kellan Lutz, Roxy Sternberg, and Nathanial Arcand.

14. Filthy Rich - Drama - FOX

A southern Gothic family drama in which wealth, power and religion collide – with outrageously soapy results. When the patriarch of a mega-rich Southern family, famed for creating a wildly successful Christian television network, dies in a plane crash, his wife and family are stunned to learn that he fathered three illegitimate children, all of whom are written into his will, threatening their family name and fortune. With monumental twists and turns, FILTHY RICH presents a world in which everyone has an ulterior motive – and no one is going down without a fight.

15. Katy Keene - Dramedy - The CW

Lucy Hale stars as Katy Keene in this Riverdale offshoot and Ashleigh Murray joins her as Josie McCoy. Their world is populated with kindred-spirit starving artists, including mysterious socialite Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) and Broadway-bound performer Jorge Lopez — and his drag queen alter ego, Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp). While their climb to the top is rife with obstacles, this found family will stop at nothing to see their names in lights.

16. The Kenan Show - Comedy - NBC

Written by Jackie Clarke and directed and executive produced by Chris Rock, the family comedy centers around Kenan (Thompson), who strives to be a super dad to his two adorable girls (Dani and Dannah Lockett) while simultaneously balancing his job and a father-in-law (Andy Garcia) who “helps” in the most inappropriate ways. Punam Patel, Dani Lockett, Dannah Lockett and Andy Garcia co-star.

17. Mixed-ish - Comedy - ABC

A prequel to Black-ish, the 1980s-set spinoff revolves around a younger version of Tracee Ellis Ross' Rainbow (Arica Himmell) as her family moves from a hippie commune to the suburbs. The single-camera ABC Studios comedy, written by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and EP Peter Saji, will explore issues the mixed-race family faces.

18. Nancy Drew - Drama - The CW

Kennedy McMann plays Nancy Drew in this upcoming CW show that takes place the summer after Nancy graduates from high school. She thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college, but when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.

19. neXt - Drama - FOX

Starring Mad Men's John Slattery as Paul LeBlanc, neXt is a propulsive, fact-based thriller about the emergence of a deadly, rogue artificial intelligence that combines pulse-pounding action with a layered examination of how technology is invading our lives and transforming us in ways we don’t yet understand. A Silicon Valley pioneer discovers that one of his own creations – a powerful A.I. – might spell global catastrophe, and teams up with a cybercrime agent to fight a villain unlike anything we’ve ever seen – one whose greatest weapon against us is ourselves. Other series cast include Fernanda Andrade, Michael Mosley, Jason Butler Harner, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Gerardo Celasco, Elizabeth Cappucino, and Evan Whitten.

20. Outmatched - Comedy - FOX

Outmatched is a multi-camera family comedy about a blue-collar couple, played by Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson, in South Jersey trying to get by and raise four kids, three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.

21. Prodigal Son - Drama - FOX

A fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and a darkly comedic tone. Malcolm Bright knows how killers think. Why? His father was one of the best, a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon.” That’s why Bright is the best criminal psychologist around; murder is the family business. He uses his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes, while dealing with a somewhat manipulative mother, an annoyingly normal sister, a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son and his own constantly evolving neuroses. Tom Payne is Malcom Bright who is joined by Michael Sheen, Bellamy Young, Lou Diamond Phillips, Halston Sage, Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, and Keiko Agena.

22. Sunnyside - Comedy - NBC

(From Deadline) Co-written by Penn and Murray, Sunnyside is named after the neighborhood in the historically diverse Queens borough of New York where the show is set. (The photo above shows Penn spending time in Sunnyside last weekend.) It centers on former New York City Councilman Garrett Shah (Penn), who finds his calling when faced with seven recent immigrants — five of them played by immigrant actors — in need of his help and in search of the American Dream. The seven recent immigrants are Jin Hao, played by South Korea-born Booster; Mallory, played by UK-born Deol; Mei Lin, played by China-born Liu; Drzen, played by Romania-born Petrut; Hakim, played by Africa-born Schutte; Griselda, played by Riva, a first generation Dominican; and Brady, played by Storm.

23. Tommy - CBS

On Tommy, when a former high-ranking NYPD officer (Edie Falco) becomes the first female Chief of Police for Los Angeles, she uses her unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to navigate the social, political, and national security issues that converge with enforcing the law. Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, David Fierro, Russell G. Jones, Olivia Lucy Phillip and Joseph Lyle Taylor co-star.

24. The Unicorn - Comedy - CBS

On The Unicorn, a tight-knit group of friends and family help a widower move on following the most difficult year of his life, which includes being an ill-equipped but devoted single parent to his two daughters, and taking the major step of dating where, to his shock, he’s a hot commodity. The comedy stars Walton Goggins, Rob Corddry, Michaela Watkins, Omar Benson Miller, Maya Lynne Robinson, Ruby Jay, and Makenzie moss.

25. Not Just Me - Drama - FOX

A story of an unusual family formed through extreme odds, exploring such hot-button issues as identity, human connection and what it truly means to be a family. An only child finds her life turned upside down when her father reveals that, over the course of his prize-winning career as a pioneering fertility doctor, he used his own sperm to conceive upwards of a hundred children, including two new sisters. As these three young women slowly embrace their new reality, they will attempt to form an untraditional bond as sisters, even as they must welcome a tidal wave of new siblings into their rapidly expanding family. The series stars Brittany Snow, Megalyn Eckikunwoke, and Emily Osment, as well as Mustafa Elzein, Mo McRae, Victoria Cartagena, and Timothy Hutton.

26. Untitled Cobie Smulders Drama - Drama - ABC

Based on the Stumptown graphic novels by Greg Rucka, this private-eye drama from ABC Studios was a frontrunner at ABC throughout pilot season. Avengers actress Smulders plays Dex Parios, an army veteran with a complicated love life, a gambling debt and a brother to take care of who works as a P.I. in Portland, Ore.

27. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist - Drama - NBC

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist follows Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy), a whip-smart computer coder forging her way in San Francisco. After an unusual event she starts to hear the innermost wants and desires of the people around her through songs. At first, she questions her own sanity but soon realizes this unwanted curse may just be an incredibly wonderful gift. In addition to Levy, the cast also includes Skylar Astin, Peter Gallagher, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Carmen Cusack, and Mary Steenburgen.
