2. Ben Barnes as Sam Adams - Sons of Liberty

Ben Barnes stars as Sam Adams, a local tax collector turned leader of the Sons of Liberty. Adams accidentally sets in motion the resistance that leads to the American Revolution.

3. Henry Thomas as John Adams - Sons of Liberty

Henry Thomas stars as John Adams, cousin to Sam and the most educated Son of Liberty. Though he initially refuses to take part in the resistance, when John does join up it's in a big way. He is not only one of our Founding Fathers, but goes on to become our first vice president and eventually the second president of the United States.

4. Rafe Spall as John Hancock - Sons of Liberty

Rafe Spall portrays John Hancock, the wealthiest man in Boston at the time. When the British seize his ships and home affecting his bottom line, Hancock partners with the Sons forever changing the world. Hancock was the first signer of the Declaration of Independence and remembered for his large and stylish signature drawn so that King George III would be able to read the Hancock name. That's why the term "John Hancock" has become a synonym for a signature in the U.S.

5. Ryan Eggold as Dr. Joseph Warren - Sons of Liberty

Ryan Eggold plays Dr. Joseph Warren, an important figure history has mostly forgotten. Warren and Sam Adams were lifelong pals, he was also physician to British General Gage and his wife. This allowed the good doctor to provide intelligence on the British to the Sons of Liberty.

6. Michael Raymond-James as Paul Revere - Sons of Liberty

Michael Raymond-James stars as Paul Revere, an accidental addition to the team. When the Sons of Liberty rent his shop, he can't help but get caught up in the cause. Revere's ride from Boston to Lexington and Concord to warn that "the British are coming" remains, to this day, one of the most famous in history.

7. Revere, Adams and Hancock - Sons of Liberty

Paul Revere (Michael Raymond-James), Sam Adams (Ben Barnes) and John Hancock (Rafe Spall) in a promo shot for HISTORY's "Sons of Liberty."

8. Dean Norris as Benjamin Franklin - Sons of Liberty

Dean Norris stars as Benjamin Franklin, an unofficial colonial representative to the British Parliament who found himself constantly defending Sam Adams’ misdeeds. Franklin is inevitably banished, paving the way for him to become one of this country's founding fathers.

9. Jason O’Mara as George Washington - Sons of Liberty

Jason O’Mara stars as George Washington, a former British Army officer and military veteran. His fateful meeting with Sam Adams at the First Continental Congress sets some of the groundwork for the legendary Continental Army. You probably recognize this guy from our one-dollar bill.

10. Washington and Franklin - Sons of Liberty

George Washington (Jason O’Mara) and Benjamin Franklin (Dean Norris) are just two of our country's key Founding Fathers.

11. Marton Csokas as General Gage - Sons of Liberty

Marton Csokas plays General Thomas Gage, a cruel and vicious man sent by the king to tame the unrest in Boston. The General immediately puts the city on lockdown in an attempt to dissolve the growing resistance. It's his brutal tactics that ultimately ignite the rebellion that leads to the American Revolution.

12. Emily Berrington as Margaret Gage - Sons of Liberty

Emily Berrington plays Margaret Gage, wife of the abusive General Gage and friend to Dr. Warren. Unlike her husband, Margaret was born in the colonies and is thrilled to be back in America. In time, Margaret begins sharing useful intelligence with the Sons in their early conflicts against the British.

13. The Green Dragon Tavern - Sons of Liberty

John Adams, Sam Adams and Paul Revere held important meetings at the Green Dragon Tavern. The Boston Tea Party was planned there and Paul Revere was sent from the Green Dragon to Lexington on his historic ride.

14. Hancock and Adams Strike A Deal - Sons of Liberty

John Hancock and Sam Adams strike a deal when Hancock offers to wipe Sam’s debt clean. After the British seize his ship and all its contents, Hancock and Sam become partners smuggling untaxed goods into Boston. This ultimately escalates into the Boston Massacre and the colonists begin fighting for their freedom.

15. Sam Adams and the Redcoats - Sons of Liberty

After colonists destroy the governor’s mansion, Sam Adams unintentionally becomes the face of the resistance and a thorn in the British army's side.

16. Dr. Warren and Mrs. Gage Meet - Sons of Liberty

Dr. Warren and Margaret Gage meet after her husband demonstrates his cruelty in the town square. Joseph is instantly taken with Margaret's compassion and kindness.

17. The Redcoats Fire - Sons of Liberty

The Redcoats had no issues firing at the colonists though they vastly outnumbered them.

18. Hancock and Adams at the First Continental Congress - Sons of Liberty

John Hancock and Sam Adams attend the First Continental Congress, but are denied any aid by the other colonies. George Washington, however, sides with them and recommends that the Sons of Liberty begin to arm themselves as war is inevitable.

19. Paul Revere's Famous Warning - Sons of Liberty

Paul Revere is shown here giving his famous warning after the ride from Boston to Lexington... "the British are coming."

20. Join, or Die - Sons of Liberty

The Sons of Liberty hold up their "Join, or Die" flag. This political cartoon by Benjamin Franklin was used to encourage unity against British rule. It became a symbol of colonial freedom during the war.

21. The Battle for Independence Begins - Sons of Liberty

The battle for independence begins after Paul Revere’s ride sets off the battles of Lexington and Bunker Hill. Desperate for help, Sam and John Adams, along with Hancock, again travel to Philadelphia hoping to convince the other colonies this was the time to fight for independence.

22. Washington and the Continental Army - Sons of Liberty

George Washington is made head of the Continental Army in an attempt to retake Boston. However, Gage already has hundreds of British warships on their way to the New World.

23. General Gage Shows No Mercy - Sons of Liberty

General Gage shows no mercy because what started off as an insurrection in the streets of Boston has evolved into a full-scale revolution.

24. The Declaration of Independence - Sons of Liberty

Benjamin Franklin holds the Declaration of Independence which declared the thirteen American colonies independent sovereign states, and no longer a part of the British Empire. At age 70, Franklin was the oldest signer.

25. John Adams Signs the Declaration - Sons of Liberty

Though John Hancock, President of the Continental Congress, was the first to sign the Declaration of Independence, only two future presidents, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were among the signatories.
