Let's hope he's funnier on a sitcom than he was on Saturday Night Live.

Chris Kattan, a 10-year veteran of the NBC franchise, has landed a regular role on The Middle. He'll portray Bob, a close friend of fellow car salesman Frankie Heck (Patricia Heaton).

The Middle is a single-camera comedy about a middle-class Midwestern family, seen through the eyes of the mother (Heaton). It will premiere on September 30.
