The X Factor Premieres: What Did You Think?
Simon Cowell is still honest and snarky. Paula Abdul is still a glitter-laden mess of positive energy. L.A. Reid is straightforward and professional. And Cheryl Cole...
... well, we won't be seeing her on The X Factor again.
Indeed, the wildly-anticipated debut of this British export debuted on American television last night, clearly aiming to come across as the more expensive, dressier version of American Idol. Case in point: forget private ballrooms in hotels or convention centers. Initial auditions took place on a stage in front of thousands.
There were bells and there were whistles, but there were also a number of talented contestants - and that's what determines the fate of any singing competition. My favorite opened the show: 13-year old Rachel Crow. Check out her impression take on "Mercy" now and then vote in our poll.
