Dexter to Kill Again... and Again

No matter how you slice it, this has been a disappointing season of Dexter from a creative standpoint. Only one-quarter of our poll participants believe it's on par with past years.

But the ratings remain strong and Showtime announced today that the Michael C. Hall-anchored series would return for seasons seven and eight.

Contemplative Dexter

"Dexter's enormous success is a real tribute to the great achievements of its cast, producers, and the powerhouse performance of Michael C. Hall,” said David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. “The series is bigger than it’s ever been in its sixth season, both in terms of audience and its impact on the cultural landscape. Together with Michael, the creative team on the show has a very clear sense of where they intend to take the show over the next two seasons and, as a huge fan, I’m excited to watch the story of Dexter Morgan play out.”

Added the show's star and multiple time Emmy nominee:

"On behalf of the entire Dexter family, we relish the invitation to delve ever deeper into Dexter's world."

first 4 seasons: EPIC storytelling, dialogue, pace, etc. Season 5: sloppy, unrealistic, Dexter and lumen had no chemistry and she was THE most boring character ever. They didn't even do anything good with the gorgeous Jordan Chase...he had everyone else do his dirty work for him? it was boring. Season 6: better than lumen, but still bad. What's with Deb? what, allll the other guys she was with she was in love with and then she finally gets a hot guy that wants to marry her and she acts like a complete asshole? whatever. blah. i feel sorry for michael c hall to have to bein this legendary show that apparently thinks it can rest on it's laurels...

I agree with those who think the show has lost it's rhythm. I've SO lost interest that I still haven't watched last week's episode. The appearance of GhostBrother just filled me with an overwhelming sense of ennui.

Does this mean it was actually renewed or that Michael. C Hall is just willing to come back for two more seasons? Either way, it's great news! :D

I agree - better than last season so far. Who votes in these things, I didn't even see this one.

Season 1 "The Ice Trucker" season was epic.
Season 2 "The Bay Harbor Killer" season with Doakes being blamed for Dexter's killings was hilarious and cathartic.
Season 3 "Mayor Miguel" was almost like it was written by Sam Rami.
Season 4 "The Trinity Killer" was also epic, but a very creepy villain.
Season 5 "The Illuminating Lumen" season was initially slow with Lumen's rescue for the first half, but it eventually got it's pace back.
Season 6? I loved Father Sam.. and he's dead.

I'm loving this season so far! Can't believe someone thinks it's a flop! Also, Dexter never gets REALLY good until midseason when things start unfolding!
