Exhale, Fringe fans. And... now celebrate! Fox has picked up this cult favorite for a fifth and final season. It will air 13 episodes in 2012-2013.

Fringe is a remarkably creative series that has set the bar as one of television’s most imaginative dramas. Bringing it back for a final 13 allows us to provide the climactic conclusion that its passionate and loyal fans deserve,” said President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly. “The amazing work the producers, writers and the incredibly talented cast and crew have delivered the last four seasons has literally been out of this world. Although the end is bittersweet, it’s going to be a very exciting final chapter.”

Fringe airs a new episode tomorrow night and its season four finale on May 11. You can read about what's to come via this set of Fringe spoilers.

Said producer J.J. Abrams of the renewal news:

“We are thrilled and beyond grateful that FOX – and our fans – have made the impossible possible: Fringe will continue into a fifth season that will allow the series to conclude in a wild and thrilling way. All of us at Bad Robot are forever indebted to our viewers and the amazingly supportive FOX network for allowing the adventures of Fringe Division to not only continue, but to resolve in a way that perfectly fits the show.”

Hey FOX, great news! So happy the program can have the proper arc and conclusion! Any chance FOX could pick up Stargate Universe where it left off?

I felt incredibly happy when I read this! I'm so glad they'll be allowed to give us a proper end. So many shows I love ended brutally with me always wondering what would have happened next... I won't be frustrated this time! Thank you so much producers!

To those that say Olive has no back story did you forget about the last three seasons. Its like Star Wars idiots when you watched the first three and thought it all revolved around Luke. Then the truth catches up with you and its all about Darth Vader. When Peter climbed in the machine the show came full circle. He was the Vader of the show he saved the worlds by giving himself. And the future he saw was a world at war against the Observers and we know that now and only he can stop it thats why they wanted him gone.

Egnif is right! I'm very happy about the news and i love fringe, but it was seriously better everytime olivia was in the centre...the last couple of episodes where peter is the lead and she just "shows up" here and there are showed how important she and her vibe are to the series... i want 13 episodes of full olivia dunham power!

Hm. Well if the "FRINGE" title at the end of the promo is any indication, it would, indeed, indicate that the final three episodes will build up to an occucupied "blue" Observer-verse. And the final thirteen will deal with the war, and probably the actual Occupation will show up here and there (so that Torv can still be re-casted as a recurring character, being dead and what not). Can't wait. Thanks FOX, producers, and everyone else who had to lobby hard for this show!

YES!! YES!! YEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! My week, my month, my YEAR just got instantly better! Thanks to the powers that be, and mostly to all the GREAT FRINGE FANS for not giving up on this wonderful show! I'm so happy I can even ignore the little trolls here (*ahem*egnirf)!

I was so happy when I heard the news. My heartfelt thanks to Fox and WB for listening to the fans wishes. @Egnirf: WTF man? This is a news to celebrate and you are continuing your trolling even here. Do you even understand Fringe? Every fringe fan loves Olivia, just like we love all the other characters. If you think that fringe has never written anything for Olivia then you need to go to a neurologist and check whether God forgot to install a brain in your head. And BTW, 4x19 was an awesome episode and now you can crawl back into the hole you came out of.

Well the first thing that went through my mind is that if the writers were all that amazing then we would have had a season 6 and on >>
But it's good to see them pulling a Chuck and wrapping it up, although the ending of Chuck was designed for a movie later on and sucked.
I like the series and good to see them having a chance to wrap it up decently (hopefully) would there could be more seasons.

This season 5 must be front and center with Olivia, she must get her Hero and Savior ststus back.
They never wrote for Olivia, never did anything with her backstory, and since midseason 3 she was reduced to the girl of Peter. The lowpoint was 419 where a copycat actress copies Anna Torvs work of 4 years exactly, and gets praise for the stealing.
The most disgusting thing you can do to an actor.
