The only problem I have with this episode--well actually it is some characterizations since the show's start--is how Heather is portrayed and Tess' sudden relationship with Joe.

I really enjoy the show but neither Tess nor Heather are fleshed out well. In this episode Heather came across as the typical nosy, annoying younger sister and that is so unfortunate.

If more development was given to the character since her introduction to the show, the way she behaved in this episode would have more resonance. She was completely over the top and there was no motivation tied to her reaction. Going to Tess to get a background check???

I get that Tess/Heather were concerned and they care about Catherine but more time is given to Cat/Vincent relationship (which of course should be the case) and that makes their interactions resonate more.

Because there isn't enough development of Cat's personal relationship with Tess as well as Heather the "interrogation scene" and every scene

OKAY EVERYBODY DEEP BREATHS, CALM DOWN. NOW FREAK FRIGGING OUT!!! THAT KISS ( MANY KISSES!!! ) WAS AMAZING!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!! I CANT EVEN HARDLY REMEMBER THE REST OF THE SHOW. I'LL HAVE TO GO BACK AND WATCH IT AGAIN. THE KISSES GAVE ME AMNESIA!!! BUT REALLY BEASTIES THE WRITERS ON THIS SHOW MAKE IT THE MOST REALISTIC SHOW ON TV!!! ITS NOT SO DETAILED AND OVER ANALYZED THAT IT IS UNDER A MICROSCOPE. ITS NOT SO OVER CONTROLED THAT EVERY OUNCE OF REALIZEM IS DRAINED OUT OF THE CHARACTERS. BUT COME ON NOW BEASTIES VINCENT AND CATHERINES LOVE IS SO REAL SO EPIC SO BEAUTIFUL, THAT IT IS BREATHTAKING TO WATCH AND EXPERIENCE!!! I CANT IMAGINE WHAT IT IS LIKE FOR THE ACTORS!!! THEY HAVE TO HAVE THAT CHEMISTRY OFF SCREEN AS WELL. IT CANNOT BE THAT REAL AND BE AN ACT!!! I LOVE THEM!

    I also wanted to add:
    Thanks Carissa for reviewing! ^_^
This site is always the first for good reviews of my favourite shows!

Heather was a real headache to watch, but I think the actress that portrays her did a great job in making her so unbearable, selfish, blind, stupid and what not. I thought this when I watched the scene in the precinct. She was a totally different thing there, she was so scared, confused, vulnerable, so human.
This is not my kind of show, but I started watching out of curiosity and I haven't been bored for a second. I am not into soapy plots at all -I hate it when they try to pretend it's something else but it's all really just about matching and rematching couples, eeek!-, but this sort of "romantic noir", I just find it very charming. It's overtly about love-against-all-odds, as the original show was, and I think its irresistible! I like the way the plot and the characters have grown up throughout the series, building up the suspense, and now it's all much more complex and there are so many characters facing difficult choices. I think it deserves -as much as we do- one more season

In response to Gigi's post, what??? People have panned Jay Ryan's portrayal of Vincent?
I think he has the character nailed. It's that vulnerability and everything else about him that makes him so irresistible. Gigi's description of Vincent is bang on, to a T. It's certainly interesting how people can watch the same thing, and see it so differently..Not sure whether its a lack of advertising or what, but a lot of my friends had not even heard of the show, I'm slowing turning them on to it. I bought a season pass so that they can start at the very beginning!

To Carissa: thank you so much for your reviews! I enjoy recapping & reading what other people write back as well. The episode "JB" is referring to with the green small notebook is "Trapped" where Vincent is "put under" by JT in the cage to remember his time in Afghanistan. JT has the notebook now back at the warehouse. That's when JT broke into Evan's lab to make a serum for the "black outs" Vincent was having. It's before "Bridesmaid Up". I don't know what "JB" is looking at, but I think Vincent & Cat have great chemistry together! I did not like him with Alex, forgetting that she was his ex,just didn't see it. My husband didn't care for her either. Cat & Vincent don't have to be in the same profession to have things in common. They are both loving & caring, want to do the right thing in their work & with their friends & family. I'd love to see more flashbacks with Vincent's family. Everyone has their own opinion & this website is for the fans who LOVE the

Thanks for your great review, Carissa! This show has truly become my secret guilty pleasure as I can't seem to find any of my friends who are watching it (or admit to it)! Up until now, I have to say the plotline was gettng a little tedious and I was considering tuning out but this was a great mid-season episode that really got things ramping up. I was really mad at how Alex showed up and Vincent seemed to dump Cat like a hot potato and go running off with the former girlfriend. But as he explained somewhat later on, he made that choice to get away from Cat to protect her - like Alex was convenient and a handy second choice. Some reviewers have panned Vincent's performance - wooden, stilted, monotone, but I actually think he portrays the character really well. Hesitant, confused, overly cautious - not sure how to act around people, especially a woman he finds very attractive. The KISS at the end of this episode was really sweet and romantic! At first I had the same impression as anothe

I loved the end of this episode and find the Catherine/Vincent connection is wonderful - but the first point in your review is the clincher: I can't remember a more unlikeable or obnoxious character than Heather. I'd be happy if they wrote her out sooner rather than later! Just send her off to an amazing job on the other side of the country. At least has occasionally shown some support or humour with her friend/partner. Heather is spoilt, self-centred, immature, brainless and wholly uninteresting. The minutes spent on her in any scene are irritating and a waste of time. Cat/Vincent - A+, JT - A, Evan - B-, Tess - C, and Heather - F!!!

  10. JB

Hi Carissa - I was referring to the boxes that Cat's Dad led her to in the storage room 'behind the wine cabinet'. It had all her mothers notes in it about Vincent which JT described as 'crazy detailed' as well as what looked like profiles on other test subjects and that picture of Cat's mom with two of the other MF dudes. It was the episode where they make the serum to cure Vincent's blackouts, though I can;t recall the title.

Marley - See, that is my problem, I don't think they have chemistry at ALL. I think Vincent and Alex had chemistry, and even Cat and Even, but Vincent and Cat always seems so forced and heavy handed. They did a good job in the 'Bridesmaid Up' episode, but that was where it tarted and ended for me.

I have to disagree with JB, having something in common is not necessarily what makes a relationship. Cat and Vincent have an amazing chemistry, and chemistry is what its all about. What I can agree with is that the writers need to be a little more mindful of the details and how they connect from one episode to the next. That said, it's still my fave show and waiting till March 14th will be nothing short of brutal! I would love to have seen that first kiss when they were dancing at the wedding (still my favourite moment), but as it was, I'll be rewinding it and rewatching it for sure. Seriously, if there is an actor on TV with a voice as incredibly sexy as Vincent's, I have yet to hear it. I love them as a couple, and it's that chemistry between them that keeps me coming back for more!

  12. SMS

Did Heather and Tess give her a kidney, I'm pretty sure, I would have told them to mind their own damn business. Loved the kiss

  13. JB

What happened to Cat having boxes and boxes of stuff on Murfield and Vincent and all the experimentation? Have they even bothered to go through it? si there maybe, I don't know, a cure in there? We don't know, because the boxes were yet another plot device that was introduced and then discarded when it was no longer convenient.

I'd like to say that we as viewers are smarter than the writers of this show give us credit for, but given the number of people raving about how 'awesome' and 'epic' this show is, seems to prove me wrong. Apparently, all you need is attractive people kissing and no one will care what the rest of the show (or the relationship producing the kissing) is about.

  14. JB

Sorry, but that kiss was so scripted and forced it was no where NEAR worth the wait. And why do we spend every episode whining about 'being normal'? Because lets face it, if Vincent were to suddenly be cured, he and Cat have no business being together. At all. Seriously what do they have in common? Give me one reason they are together besides the fact that the show is called Beauty and the Beast. Yes there are points that could have made them very compatible, like loss and hiding your true self, but those elements have been completely ignored by the writers, so sorry, they don't count. The only time e have seen them look even remotely happy together was during the mid-season finally, but even that they were able to screw up less than a full episode later. Sorry writers, you can't just tell us to care about a couple, call them 'soul mates' and expect us to buy it. We need to actually believe that they work, then these two just don't.

And while we are on the subject of crappy writing,

  15. Priyanka

Reading your review, I realize the whole "witness protection program" idea would've saved a hell lot of trouble!!

  16. Olga

I really was getting frustrated in the first part and even in the middle with Heather getting so much air time but the ending!!! OMG!!! That Kiss was worth the wait!! So sweet and passionate!! I know these two sweethearts have a long rocky and dangerous road ahead of them but I am so happy they have this Amazing Love.

  17. Denise

Why do we have to wait until Mar. 14th!!! LOVED the ending!!! Vincent & Cat needed to be MORE prepared for ALL the questions that were fired at them. Why'd Vincent try to take the picture from Heather's room? Cat would've gotten it & he should've heard her coming? Not a good move. Why aren't they checking Darius' cell phone records/texts to see he was dirty? Heather should be telling what she saw in the office. One guy did run away. Evan is going to get into trouble again if he finds Vincent. Muirfield isn't going to spare him. You can tell his feelings for Cat will get in the way. Why hasn't anyone ever followed Cat? Is she THAT GOOD at loosing a "tail"? Seems like someone interrupts their "romance" at the warehouse. Hope they don't blow over the investigation into WHY those men were after Darius. Maybe Cat will find the answers. Have to keep rewatching the ending until the next episode!!

  18. Kris

Frustrating episode to say the least. And I thought that Vincent killed one of the thugs and hello check dudes cell phone what kind of cops are they? In fact Im positive only one thug got away. Im kinda worried the hunt for the beast is going to get in the way of good police work which has fallen by the way on this show and btw I watched in plain sight miss it terribly. Heather and Tess could go and I would be happy sister or not she wouldnt be telling me what to do.

  19. carolinagirl2

That was exactly what I thought! Why didn't Cat simply tell them that Vincent was in witness protection and that would have shut them both up! I find myself liking neither Heather or Tess! I would love to see Cat get a new partner because Tess is such a hypocrite. And wasn't Heather supposed to be working at the party? How does she just go off with Joe's brother and leave whoever to see to things? Very strange!

But on a better note - the kiss was WONDERFUL!!! Very soulful and romantic. Definitely a 10+ on that one!!

  20. Amber (@AmberDawn1214)

This episode was so intense! I was amped up for hours after it was over. I loved how Catherine was so determined to make everything ok for Vincent. I was a little upset about Evan's choice to join Muirfield, but he is doing what he thinks is best for Cat! Even though Vincent is whats best for Cat. I think he will eventually come around to understanding, but at what cost?? It will be a rocky and sexy road ahead for VinCat especially with Joe so determined to avenge his brother's death. You could totally tell Vincent was deeply upset about killing Darius, and I'm pretty sure the other two thugs died as well. There was more than one body covered up! Can't wait for the return! 2 weeks is better than 6 :)

Evan actually reminds me more and more of Gaston ...and I like it :D
The writers have done a damn good job with gradually growing his character and his now fascination with hunting "the beast" that seems to be drawn to Kat. Perfect.

meh :( I don't want Evan to join Muirfield! I want him to join Vincent & co. A bit like a scooby gang a la Buffy the Vampire slayer. I disliked Heather, and think she is one of the most unsensitive sisters ever. You don't pull a stunt like that when meeting your sisters boyfriend for the first time! I'm not even going to talk about Tess and her issues.

    Great review btw.

Also I can't help but be angry at the writers to have put Cat in a corner. By lying to everyone close to her, nobody trusts her and they all could endanger her and Vincent.

It's funny I thought exactly the same that Cat should what said he was in witness protection. It would have explained everything why he didn't want his picture taken, why he had to hide, his fake name.

Carissa you're right. I saw the promo and they(Tess and Joe) seem to be looking for the beast next episode...

I am disappointed by the Evan storyline, but I figured a long ago that he was too curious to let it go. Cat should have let himin on it. But then again I can't blame her since Evan is so closed-minded when it comes to Vincent he only sees him as a beast, not as a good intentioned human. Didn't he see Vincent save Cat? Anyway, Cat will have to deal with him because right now he's a threat.

I was asking myself the same thing about witness protection during the interrogation. I watched IPS too. ;-)

But OMGosh, Heather and Tess get the award for worst besties of a lead character. At least until I can think of worse. Tess really makes Hank (of Grimm) seem like the best partner.

The most mature and reasoned person on the show: Evan. Poor guy, he just wants to do what's right. He is right about the dangers of being close to Vincent whilst his DNA is mutating.

"You are my normal" - great line
