TV Ratings Report: Empire Tops Night, Star Soars

at .

Empire returned to Fox last night with 6.9 million viewers and a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49. Those figures are way down from the 10.9 million viewers and a 4.2 rating who tuned in for Empire Season 3 Episode 1

The show still topped the night, but the numbers have to be a little bit concerning for Fox. Airing after Empire, Star raced to its second highest-rated episode ever.

It had 5.5 million viewers and a 1.8 rating, so that was a big positive for the series.

Over on CBS, Survivor (8.1 million/1.7 rating) and Criminal Minds (7 million/1.3 rating) were way down from last season's premieres, while SEAL Team (9.7 million/1.5 rating) performed okay.

The Goldbergs (6.1 million/1.8 rating), Speechless (5 million/1.4 rating), Modern Family (6.9 million/2.1 rating), American Housewife (5.6 million/1.6 rating) and Designated Survivor (5.5 million/1.1 rating) were all down from last year's openers.

Over on NBC, The Blacklist (6.2 million/1.1 rating), Law & Order: SVU (5.7 million/1.4 rating) and Chicago PD (6 million/1.3 rating) came in well below their 2016 premieres.
