Clarke Griffin is an amazing character and an essential part of the Space Crew but them moving on from her death probably has to happen in the new season.

Now hear me out.

I love Clarke Griffin as much as anyone, maybe even more actually. But when discussing the mental state of the space seven, we have to consider how much six years must have changed or should have changed at least.

There is no doubt in my mind that once Clarke reunites with her old friends (and Echo) that their reactions will be emotion inducing and will feel just like it always has.

Yet there is still a case to be made for why they would need to have moved on before they know she is alive, instead of us holding out hope that they are all still in mourning.

It Has To Be Realistic 

Six years is a long time. In fact, it is longer than everyone managed to spend time with Clarke on the ground. She is obviously significant and she is the reason that they are in space for the time being, but based on all possible factors, they have to assume she is dead.

This could all be wrong, and for all we know, The 100 Season 5 will open up with everyone hearing Clarke's message over the radio, and they just can't figure out a way to respond.

We have to assume though that Clarke can't reach them and even though they aren't even on their actual ship anymore, all those years they couldn't hear her, either.

And by that sequence of events, we have to acknowledge that it makes the most sense that they mourned her and missed her every day but aren't sitting around thinking how she still might be alive.

If Bellamy and Raven ended The 100 Season 4 Episode 13 thinking they had to figure out their new steps in Clarke's honor, then I can't imagine that anyone else would have more hope.

No one could have more hope in Clarke Griffin than Bellamy Blake and Raven Reyes. 

It Provides Some Important Progress With the Character's Mental Health 

Bellamy, Monty, Harper, Raven, Emori, Murphy, and Echo have been through a shit show of a time down on Earth.

After everything that happened if there is a chance for these characters to have even a little time just to relax, now is the exact time for that. 

Again, there is no possible way to know exactly what happened in those six years in space or where everyone is now. We do know though that they spent some time on their ship, and in that time there weren't wars to fight like the ones they had to before.

Maybe something else started; chances are it did if we mention the Eligius prison ship, but there has to be some amount of time where things calmed down.

In that time those characters deserved to take a breath and focus on their mental health. Characters like Finn and Jasper struggled through theirs in front of us and sadly lost those battles.

Meanwhile, Bellamy, Monty, Raven, Murphy, and Harper are still trying to survive and deserve to properly mourn someone very close to them while still allowing themselves the chance to heal.

In fact, Bellamy Blake is the character that many are hoping to see still thinking about Clarke's survival, and it isn't as romantic as some want it to be.

Trust me, I understand the appeal of wanting both people in a 'ship that you like to know the other one is alive. It really isn't much to ask,  but sometimes your requests aren't heard, and situations end up differently. 

Bellamy has been through a lot both with and without Clarke, and as important as their relationship is, it doesn't come before Bellamy's mental health.

He is already worried about his sister and what is going on with her since, in his mind, there is a chance she could still be alive.

Forcing Bellamy to carry the weight of Clarke's survival is dooming him to more worry and pain that doesn't deserve. 

No one should be stuck in a constant loop of "what if" and in this scenario, Bellamy would be pushed into that specific corner. 

It wouldn't be fair to want Bellamy to suffer from all the possibilities of what Clarke could be going through instead of extending him the courtesy not to experience such a fate.

Abby is surely worried about her daughter, but she could still think her daughter is alive in space. Abby's perspective versus the Space Crew's could not be farther apart, but they both offer some closure.

It Allows For Some Adjusted Focus

The people in space needed to think Clarke was gone just as much as Clarke needed to think they were all alive.

In a perfect world no one would have to worry about anybody but in this situation, Clarke did all she could to make sure they were alive and lived the best possible way.

Clarke survived on her own and then with Madi, but it was the hope she had every time she went to that radio to talk to Bellamy needs to be mentioned.

In her mind, her people were okay, and that is important. In the meantime, Clarke and Madi managed to figure out how to stay alive while they waited for everyone to come up from the bunker and down from space.

I truly believe that Clarke's focus on finding where and how to survive is based on the fact that she is waiting for everyone she loves to join her once again.

The same goes for characters like Bellamy, Raven, Monty, Murphy, and Emori who shared a connection with Clarke but can't focus on her if they intend to come back to Earth.

No one knows what happened to them, yet we know that had they been focused on figuring out what might or might not have happened to Clarke, their focus on surviving and returning wouldn't have been the same.

Their attention needed to be adjusted so they would only think about their next steps because they had more control over that versus the complete lack of knowledge about what was happening with Clarke.

Those who are still in space will reunite with Clarke, and everything will be okay again. 

There will undoubtedly be future actions for them to figure out, but they will finally all be together again; that is something we know we can expect.

But there shouldn't be an attempt to hold out for Bellamy, Monty, Raven, Emori, and Murphy to do mourn Clarke for six years straight. The same can't be said for Echo, yet the point still stands.

Everyone in space cared for and misses Clarke, but for them to work on their mental health and make progress with their survival, they have to move on from the idea that Clarke Griffin is alive.

This is nothing but painful to think about, yet it is vital for the sake of not subjecting a group of people to even more pain instead of thinking about what might be better for them at that moment.
