For the People Canceled at ABC After Two Seasons

at .  Updated at .

With the first swing of ABC's ax, we can probably expect a lot more drama to unfold at the network in the coming days

For the People, a legal drama from Shondaland will not return to the network for a third season.

The second season of the drama ranked among the lowest of ABC's series.

Lack of Confidence - For The People

Starring Britt Robertson, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Ben Rappaport, Susannah Flood, Wesam Keesh, Regé-Jean Page, Ben Shenkman, Hope Davis, Vondie Curtis-Hall and Anna Deavere Smith, For the People first debuted midway through the 2018-19 season.

For the People was created/executive produced by Paul Williams Davies who had previously written episodes of ABC's hit Scandal.

The premise of the series saw the drama unfold in the Southern District of New York Federal Court aka "The Mother Court."

It followed new laywers who had the opportunity to work both the prosecution and defense as they found their career footing.

Like all Shondaland series, their careers handling high-profile cases with even higher stakes were rounded out by the intersection of their personal lives.

Although it wasn't a breakout hit, it did feature strong performances and compelling storylines. It was a hit with its loyal following and reportedly by those who counted at ABC, but that couldn't dispell the poor ratings.

Other ABC news had the network picking up a P.I. drama starring Cobie Smulders and based on the Stumptown Graphic Novel series, as well as Mixed-ish, a companion series to its hit black-ish about Rainbow's younger years.

Black-ish Renewed for Season 6 as Spinoff Mixed-ish Scores Series Order

Elsewhere at ABC, Modern Family is returning for one final season, A Million Little Things was renewed as is The Conners, while other titles remain up in the air.

Grey's Anatomy Season 16 hasn't yet been renewed, but given Ellen Pompeo's contract extention through a 16th season, it's expected to return.

The fate of American Idol, which is not only long in the tooth, but not the ratings juggernaut it once was is up in the air.

Things Get Intense For Nolan - The Rookie Season 1 Episode 19

It's unlikely The Fix will return even with Marcia Clark's involvement and a decent cast, but TV Fanatics are hoping for The Rookie to earn a renewal, and have only good things to say about Bless This Mess, The Kids Are Alright, and Splitting Up Together.

On the Bubble: Should How to Get Away with Murder Be Renewed or Canceled?

Word is that How to Get Away With Murder will return for one final season, Station 19 has done a great job retaining viewers from Grey's Anatomy, and Whiskey Cavalier does quite well with a week of delayed viewing factored into the equation.

We'll keep our noses to the ground as more of the upcoming season at ABC fleshes out.
