TV Ratings Report: The Resident, This Is Us, and Empire Return Way Down

It was a down night for returning shows on the broadcast networks on the first Tuesday of the 2019-20 season

The Resident Season 3 kicked off with 4 million viewers and a 0.8 rating in the demo in its first Tuesday airing.

This is down three-tenths and almost a million viewers from last year's premiere, and down one-tenth from its May finale.

Empire followed with 3.4 million total viewers and a 1.0 rating, down almost 50% percent year-to-year to log its lowest-rated premiere to date.

Over on NBC, This Is Us lost considerable steam, launching with 7.7 million total viewers and a 1.8 rating. Still, the hit drama dominated the night.

New Amsterdam returned with its best numbers since November, with 6.3 million viewers and a 1.1 rating.

NCIS was on par with last season's premiere, and way up from its finale with 12.3 million viewers and a 1.3 rating.

FBI (8.8 million/0.9 rating) and NCIS: New Orleans (6.7 million/0.7 rating) were on par with their spring averages.

ABC's The Conners tied a series low in the demo with a 1.3 rating and 5.7 million viewers.

Bless This Mess returned with 4 million viewers and a 0.8 rating, while the series debut of mixedish had 4 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.

blackish had 3.5 million viewers and a 0.8 rating.

Finally, Emergence started soft 4.1 million viewers and a 0.8 rating.
