Cal Maddox came to Serenity to teach baseball and enrich teenagers' lives. However, as soon as he started dating Maddie Townsend, Mary Vaughn Lewis started digging into his past.

Cal slowly became more involved with the Townsend family and better influenced Ty and Kyle, encouraging them in life choices.

Cal offered money to Dana Sue and became a silent investor and co-owner of Sullivan's during Season. It brought more publicity to the restaurant until a fight broke out in the Season 2 finale.
