(continued, see below) There did seem to be a few people missing among "the ones we lost" at the lantern ceremony...but, then again, so many people have died who can keep count?? All in all, a truly, satisfying episode!!

This episode was, without a doubt, the best among more recent episodes and among the best of all time. And you know why? Because the story still had supernatural elements and mythos to a degree (yeah, what IS up with the bullet markings and the tattoo only Jer can see?), but it was still so....human. It didn't rely on witchy ju-ju to fix things, or convoluted histories and spells...it was so simple in so many ways. It felt like a return to Season 1 in so many ways, and I was thrilled. I also was,um...intrigued...by that whole blood sharing thing...kind of erotic in a way! And the writing was top notch...the amount of quotable statements and witty quips were staggering...and the, the final scene, it's the first time TVD truly brought me to tears in a while. Finally, I actually am proud of the writers for reintroducing some gore into a show about vampires...Elena puking blood was grossly awesome. Will Elena really stick with Stefan?
Obviously not. The premise of the show is the triangle...Julie Plec has said that many, many times.
Elena even alluded to her fickleness during the "Teen Wolf-like" roof scene when she said "I can be with you forever...if I want" (or something like that).
There is no way this is the last of her "choices". Who knows if Stelena or Delena will be series end game (both have their merits)..but she'll go back and forth a few times before then for sure.

Why did the Pastor blow himself and the Council up?
Not. A. Clue.
I'm not even sure I remember Pastor Young...have we met him? Should I remember him? I want to say compulsion but I don't think so.. I'd say they all drank vamp blood but I'm not sure anyone can "come back" from being blown to pieces..even with vamp blood in their system. I am going to go with them being some sort of symbol to other hunters. His statement "We are the beginning"...maybe just means they are setting off the chain of hunters? Plus it burned up all the vervain...

Who makes a better Klaus: Joseph Morgan or Michael Trevino?
Joseph Morgan IS Klaus when he plays the character..no contest. And "Love" and "Bloody" just sound ridiculous being said in an American accent. Scarier moment: Bonnie's nose bleeding; Rebekah getting staked; or Elena laugh-crying?
None were all that scary really. I guess Bonnie... I was actually most frightened by Klaus's outburst against Bex.

What was your favorite scene of the premiere?
You need a woman's perspective on the round table because you all clearly did not fully appreciate the awesomeness of the tension filled Delena exchange that took place by the car OR the Klyler/Caroline almost sex scene OR the way in which Elena remembered Damon compelling her after he confessed his love (my personal favorite moment).

@CoCo...he was referring to her remembering the time in the bedroom that he confessed his love. When he did that, he said that he was "selfish" but couldn't be selfish with her because he loved her. The comment of "that's not all you remember", came after Damon told her that he would have saved Elena and not Matt because he wanted more for her and he WAS selfish.
I don't think there are many other times he compelled her to be honest. She's been wearing the necklace from almost the beginning, and I think we would have seen any other times...

Yeah, but they were all vampires with a lot of strength..how would Elena free everyone? On TVD, Vampires get stronger with time, age and blood. It's Twilight mythos that says newborn vampires are the strongest, but not on TVD. I am still stumped by their escape.

One last comment, I DO think it's a great idea that the writers made Elena a vampire. They planned it well...slowly had everyone stripped from her (parents, Aunt Jenna, Uncle John, Alaric) so there are no real adult figures in her life. She was left with nothing but Jeremy. It was a good time for her to turn. I also changes the dynamic of the show and is a bit of a "next chapter" I'd say...no longer about protecting Elena all the time. More of vampires/werewolves/hybrids/witches against those that want to eliminate them. But, everyone needs to get over these "ship wars". The triangle is the premise of the show. She will change her mind 100 times while the show is still on. Deal with it and focus on the other elements of the show. Oh, I did forget to mention one other great scene...Klaus and Rebekah...beautifully acted by both :-)

I, just like Matt R, would like to know how the council got their hands on the vervain. And I honestly was NOT happy with all the council drama in the first place...this episode should have focused entirely on Elena: the fall-out of Stefan's choice, the confrontation between the brothers, the guilt of Matt, Elena's sadness that she was going to give up so much and get a life she didn't want. I think they gave more attention to Caroline's transformation in Season 2! And, yeah, how DID Stefan, Beks and Elena get out of the cages???? There WERE good parts: the Damon/Elena conversation, Jeremy frantically trying to revive Bonnie, Rebekah's change of heart while listening to Elena and Stefan (kudos to Paul Wesley in that scene), Caroline and Tyler/Klaus in the woods... Overall, I think the problem was too much time between Season 3 final and Season 4 premiere, which was filled with spoilers, anticipation and ridiculously high expectations.
