My only complaint was that the acts should have been given more time to learn their songs or been able to have a better selection. The main issue was that the contestants could not remember the lyrics.
surprisingly this was a good episode. I enjoyed the judges and enjoyed some of the acts. I hope the most talented move forward. Some have great voices. We shall see the top twenty guys tonight.
I only caught the last half hour, but I enjoyed the show. I guess that may have something to do with my liking this episode. Glad to see Lauren know how to defend herself so well. I guess this comes from being a cop's daughter. I did find it strange that the voice was changed and only Moira's voice was the same.
I have mixed feelings about the flashbacks this week. It seemed not to fit within the storyline, but it did serve to help understand how rigorous the training was on the island. It puts the oliver's skills into context.
I hope that Felicity puts two and two together she needs to be a part of the team.
I think that this is a set up and that someone will save the day. It would shake things up to have one of the central characters killed. This would breathe new life into the show. Not to say that it is not good, but it is getting kind of stale and predictable. Looking forward to the shake up angle.
I am loving this new show. It is a pleasure to see Kevin Bacon again.
The interaction with Joe and Ryan was superb acting. These characters have a great onscreen chemistry. Keep up the good writing and acting.
This episode was so/so for me. However, I do agree with Derek that it was great to avoid all the gory details and to leave some things to our imagination. This was the silver lining in the story for me.
@DouglasWolfe - Great Review.
I really enjoyed this episode. It answered a lot of questions for me. Look fwd to seeing more developments with Juliette, Deacon and Avery. Very strong characters here...
I think that this show is getting interesting... Finally it has moved from the status quo being on life support into something that could have some longevity. Time will with the next few episodes. I saw the first ray of sunshine in this episode. What the other characters needed were good plots it is headed in the right direction. However, it still needs work, but I am keeping the faith.
My favs are Cyrus and Millie. They add dimension that the show needs. Everyone else can come and go, but these two are the best. I think that the Olivia and Fitz love story can't get enough of each other is getting old. I just do not buy that these two people would get so hung up on this "fling". I think that their characters are strong and this storyline makes them look weak. I am glad to have Cyrus and Millie to balance things out. When they interact with Olivia and Fitz the characters seem to come alive. However, I will still tune in this week
I want to love this show, but I can't get past my luke warm feelings toward it.
The characters are good actors, but it does not come together for me. It always seems so over the top and not in a good way. Loved the first episodes. I hope they find their way again.
I am growing tired of this show... I do not know why they are so off track. At the rate they are going, there will not be a season 3. I hope the writers wake up or shake up the creative team. They are losing me really quickly.
The Plot lines are just dumb. They make the characters look stupid. They have some talented actors on the show. Give them good material to work with instead of the garbage they are throwing out there right now.
Loved the show...The first hour was spectacular. I think that they dragged out a few scenes in the second hour, but overall it was a great Season 2 Premier.
I like the new characters Jeremy and Jennifer Hudson's character. I do not like how weak they are making Derek. This plot seemed forced and not genuine. Eileen's character needs to really bring more venom to the table. Personally, I think that a person in her role, would be a little more tough as nails. This is NY and Broadway. Somehow, she comes across as week, when we all know that she is strong. I think that she should show Jerry once and for all that she is not taking his shenanigans, maybe by releasing dirt on him, I am sure that he has plenty of skeletons in the closet. Something needs to happen with Eileen to give her more strength. This is ANgelica Huston and she has strong acting abilities - I hope the directors wake up and let her use them more often.
Two thumbs up for your of the Season 2 Premiere of Smash was well done. I watched the show and you covered every aspect of the essentials of the show. Your review was a lot better than most reviews by news outlets that I have read, so you should feel real proud of this review.
I am a little surprised that there are so few comments on the board the day after the much anticipated season2 premiere. I would expect more feedback on this show.
However, I did notice that the Twitter Universe last night for Smash was tepid and not as Lively and active as I would have expected. I hope that the numbers were strong for last night's premier. Can't wait to see them to see how many people tuned in compared to last year's premier.
Thanks for writing a thorough well supported review of the Season 2 Premiere of Smash. I look forward to seeing the next episode on Feb. 19th
Just caught tonight's episode. It gave us quite a scare and a backstory of what oliver went through on the island. Drugs are bad news. The Count did a fantastic job as a villain.
I agree that Felicity will find out Olivers true identity. She is super bright. It will be interesting to see if malcom finds this out as well.
I like Thea and her character. She is a great asset to the storyline.
I am glad that Oliver trusted his own instincts and did not listen to Diggles. Primary reason Diggles could not see the truth is that he was too close to the subject matter and did not have his rational thinking hat on. Oliver saved his life and I think that this experience brought them closer together as a team.
I loved the one hour sneak peak of Season 2 episode 1 of Smash.
Jennifer Hudson really knocked it out of the park.
I am happy with all of the choices that they brought back this season.
I am really happy that the producers were listening about Debra messing's wardrobe choices for the character Julia - She looks soooo much better this season.
Great First hour of this episode.
I really do not see what all the drama is about on AI. I have tuned in briefly and see it as the same. The one thing that is noticeably different is the quality of the talent. I do not see breakout acts in the auditions, as in yesteryear.
The verdict is still out on this show for me.. I want to like it, but something is missing. I caught this episode on demand and enjoyed it. But I kept wondering why the acting feels so forced. Nothing comes natural with these great looking actors. I want to just shake them and say, stop pretending to act and really get into your character.
I am hoping the show makes it, but based on the viewing numbers which seem to be spiraling downward, it does not seem to have a chance.
This episode was okay and revealed some new info... But I just wanted more from all of the actors.
Joanna and Julian are two nice looking actors, but do not have the required chemistry. This is the same thing for most of the characters. They seem as though they are trying to force something that is just not there.
It shows that all acting and directing are not created equal. I have seen several of these actors in other shows/movies and know what they are capable of doing. For some reason, it is not coming together in this series.
I really want it to, because, I think that the storyline can work.
