I thought her not letting Castle in to have that talk was more so her way of protecting herself and showing him that it would take more than a meaningless apology to be invited back into that part of her life. While I understand his feelings, he did hurt his daughter deeply and she's not going to let him off the hook with a few charming words and a bowl of ice cream. Was it harsh and disrespectful? Of course. But was it harsh and disrespectful how he treated her and Pi? It sure was.
I think they are both right in some ways and both wrong in some ways and I rather appreciate the conflict because it's real and it's emotional and it's showing character growth and helping them to get through these typical growing pains in a way that will actually bring them closer.
Haven't we seen this same sort of thing between Castle and Beckett over the years? Conflict and emotion and hurt feelings leading to great joy and happiness and deeper appreciation for one another later on?

Sorry, that was supposed to say:
Great review of a really stellar episode, in my opinion. I'm looking forward to reading more!
I've always enjoyed your round table discussions on Castle, Christine, so I'm glad to see that you're going to be covering the Castle reviews here at TV Fanatic!
I, myself, didn't feel disappointed by the lack of romance in the episode only because it was somewhat understandable given the circumstances. We will have episodes with a great deal of romance between them and we'll have episodes with much more emotional or character-driven material instead. I felt that's what we had in this episode and I loved it.
I wholeheartedly agree with your take on Kate and how she approached this case while fighting her fears and emotions away to focus on saving Castle rather than on possibly losing him. It was exactly what we'd expect from this character and I thought Stana did a really great job of letting us see signs of the emotions and fear that was just under the surface of Kate's brave face. It was a very layered performance and one that I was impressed by.
Great review of a really stellar episode, Christine! I'm looking forward to reading more!
Thanks for another great round table discussion! I always love to read these following each new episode and I really felt that this was a great episode to discuss in this type of setting.
Great questions and great answers across the panel! Thank you for this, TV Fanatic!!
Fantastic round table, as ALWAYS :-)
I love these discussions and I thought Amanda did a fantastic job along with the regulars who are always so great with their answers. Thank you for bringing these to the Castle fans every week!
As a huge fan of the horror genre, I thought this episode was a perfect homage to those great classic horror films and I love when this show takes on themed episodes like this one.
And I agree, that "Be With Kate" moment was so incredibly sweet and romantic, though I also loved the car scene with Castle confessing that he had actually broken Kate's vase playing Wii tennis when she wasn't home. It was such a great relationship moment between them yet so subtle as well.
I always love reading these round table discussions here after each "Castle" episode because the regular TV Fanatic panel (Christine, Jim, Chandel, and I believe Carla in past panels if I remember correctly) always bring out such fantastic and differing viewpoints on the episode. It's great to read each person's take and the questions always get at the real meat of the episode as well.
And LeaAnn was a fantastic addition to this week's panel! I loved what she said about this episode, especially her favourite scene and then Martha's role in this episode.
Thanks for bringing us these discussions every week!!
Great interview, Christine!! Darby is such a wonderfully likeable woman, despite playing the ex-wife that we love to hate on Castle, and she really gave some great answers here to your wonderful questions!
I'm curious about the ending and what it is that she does to open up this can of worms we keep hearing about, and I like that it leaves the door open for her to come back again at some point.
I also can't wait to see this scene between Darby and Stana! It's going to be amazing!!
Great article, Christine! I feel like this show gets better and better each season and this particular season has been really quite amazing so far with the best yet to come, I'm sure.
I actually enjoyed "Swan Song" more than "Cloudy With A Chance Of Murder" because under the documentary-style camerawork and the characters talking to the cameras, it was really a great character-driven episode.
It's hard to pick a favourite episode, though. "Secret's Safe With Me" was incredible for its Caskett scenes, "Murder He Wrote" was great as we got to see these two in a different setting, and both "After Hours" and "Secret Santa" packed a one/two punch to end the first part of the season so wonderfully. But "Probable Cause" and "After The Storm" were both so epic and dramatic and stirring that they are tied for my favourite of this part of the season.
This was a fantastic interview!!
Christine, your questions were superb and Susan's answers were so insightful and in-depth that it was truly a joy to read this!
I hope you folks at TV Fanatic (and, of course, Christine) bring us more Castle-related interviews like this one throughout the course of what is sure to be an exciting season!
