Wow, good episode and really good, interesting comments this week. Even with a tough subject, the gang pulled it off without being totally depressing. Scott Caan did a GREAT job showing Danno's frustration, fear and rage, without saying a word. Nice to see so much of Kono, she lights up the screen. And I agree with @jschoi that Chin didn't believe her for a minute.
Nice to read that the motorcycle guy is who he really is, that was a nice touch. Just enough Catherine and loved when they were teasing Steve about his haircut. Anyone else notice how dark it is though? Last year he was going a bit grey on the sides and now it's Grecian Formular-ed away lol.
@Walter, thanks as always for posting the ratings, I look for that every week.
So we should be seeing Wo Fat and Mama McG taking off soon. I say together. I think she will "spring him" from the hospital, she's a wily one and he is, after all, her other son-maybe ;o) Interested to see how the Kono/Adam deal works out, but am not too hopeful for a storybook ending there. See ya's next week peeps!!
I liked it - different take on the crime, funny to see the "outsider" view of the team. Max cracked me up being Mr. Superfan, he's really grown on me. Steve looked like he'd never seen a TV reporter before and the whole team laughing about the TV crew signing the "safety waiver" was all good.
And Wo Fat got really injured. I figured he'd be running thru the jungle with a broken nail or something, that's the way chopper crashes on this show usually work. Interested to see how he gets out of this mess(and he does look a mess).
@Mike - I don't see them killing off Wo Fat or Danno. Then who would Steve have as Arch Enemy and Best Pal? Unless of course, someone's contract is up & they want way more $$.
How many more epi's till summer break?
H50 wasn't shown here in Boston last nite, the Marathon horror story rightly took over all the channels.
Caught the epi today on dvr. I thought it explained the series premiere backstory pretty well. Nice to see Jimmy Buffett again, could have done without the gross snake blood drink, thanks. I knew the "realism" peeps would be all over the fact that no one could hit Cath(w/her long hair swinging in the breeze)or Steve out in the wide open on the bridge lol.
But the last scene with the little girl made me choke up. And not just because it's been a tough couple days here in Beantown.
WOW - Something for everyone tonight! Cath in her bikini(looking fine!) for the guys, Magnum references for the old folks (like myself, who actually watched Magnum back in the day), Steve looking fine all the way thru (ladies), plenty of Chin/Kono for the C&K fans, lots of kick-a$$ action for action fans and plenty of lovely scenery for all. Even a couple car-guments for those, like myself, who love them. Steve shirtless at some point, woulda made this epi PERFECT, but alas...
Fun episode, very Season 1. For all who mention the "unresolved plot lines", relax, I think we'll get there.
#JohnnyH50 - with ya on the "can't wait to see what is up with Kono's gun being returned by Adam's brother" mystery. Betting we'll be finding out soon as there are only a few episodes left this season.
Typical H-50 hyping the "Dog the Guest Star" and giving him 30 seconds. Not that it broke my heart, but they do that all the time.
I'll repeat again for the reality peeps "if you want reality, don't watch this show, cause you'll go crazy". Just enjoy the scenery both human and otherwise.
Decent episode, I like but Cath and Steve together. Danno was a hoot with his "insider" roller derby knowledge. Mom is gonna "mysteriously disappear" again soon, mark my words. As someone else mentioned, she got a new show to go too. And when that show fails, she'll be back on 5-0 - Joe White is coming back - same reason.
Steve ACTUALLY SAID "I got issues Mom" LOL. I wish we could have heard him and Cath talk it out when he went to see her.
One last thing, WHAT was with that black outfit he had on at the end? Yikes!
@hawaiinow - Someone DID mention Max Weinberg being Springsteen's drummer cause I then re-watched the episode and was like "oh yeah, that is him". Been to a couple Springsteen concerts "back in the day" but didn't pick up on that right away like you did.
And as for "the Train guy" the reviewer mentions him above and again I was like "oh yeah". I love their top 10 song, my kids LOVE them, love them but I could get hit by the Train and not recognize any of them ;o) He did make a GREAT villan though.
I like how H50 sneaks in these interesting characters & will be looking more carefully now.
Football plot-EH, but Steve was right about Tom Brady being the best ever. And it as sweet of Cath to get Danno that ball. Murder mystery-EH, though the lounge singer was terrific. Another "hope to see again" character.
I'll jump into the Cath debate. I like how they use her, in/out like they do with Max. She shows Steve's softer side, he acts goofy around her and smiles alot(always a good thing when Alex O smiles). I fear without her the Bromance might be a bit too much, she balances that. I also had no problem with Steve not going with her, he had previous plans. Agree too, we didn't know if she knew Steve was injured, so no obligation to go to hospital.
Another good episode. No idea who Summer Glau is/was but she did a good job. Another possible love interest for Chin, agreed. But I didn't have a ton of interest in the Fight Club Crime scenerio.
It was the "other stuff" I liked about this epi. Mom is annoying. But once you accept that(sort of like you have to with some of your own relatives)she gets easier to take, at least she has for me. It WAS funny to see her making Treat Williams chase her thru the grocery store & then buy her lunch. "How are the looms?" she purrs & you KNOW she KNOWS all about this guy. Steve taking the guy down with his garden gnome-Chucky, Dan's "You are on Shrimp Truck Lockdown" & Steve shooting the guy coming at him with the knife were classic moments. Still love Steve & Cath (know many don't but I do)he gets so goofy cute around her.
Another good episode, loving Season 3! Concentrated on the Core 4, with no backstory from anyone's boyfriend/exwife/girlfriend/mother/arch enemy.
I did notice the retro credits, which I liked. Fine job by Peter Weller(Robo-cop good 80s movie), he was menacing without saying much. Always good to see Kono go into her sniper girl mode.
Anyone else notice - Steve has cargo pants with 100 pockets on and Danny has to hand him gloves? Just a weird thing I noticed. And Alex O has def put on some weight, but he looks good - powerful (and yummy-just saying).
Can't watch this show expecting reality peeps, cause you'll go crazy. Just enjoy the scenery, both human and Hawaiian.
I'm surprised Jim, you didn't pick up on that little short legs in the suit belonged to Wo Fat, it was my first thought.
Decent episode crimewise. LOVED the tie scene and the courtroom. Didn't miss Rachel not being there either. Mama McG's been on an extended vacation, not sure how I feel about that, I now sort of like her sneaky nastiness. But I'm sure she'll be back soon.
Just glad H50 is back with it's Season 1 style fun.
Wow - another new episode tonight (Monday)~ Thanks, the things I learn from you all!
Yay - great ratings, thanks for posting Walter!!
Yahoo - LOVED seeing ANOTHER Baldwin brother step up to carry on their criminal ways.
Good episode - tons of action, like season 1. Always good to see Sang Min, love that guy, both good and evil. And speaking of good/evil, nice moment with Adam TILL Kono clones his phone. Hmmmm..
See you all tomorrow!
@Walter - he was the kid of one of Danny's sisters.
I LOVED the "you guess the ending" part too. Great to see Sang Min again, love when they bring people back. Speaking of, and have to say, I haven't missed Doris and Wo Fat too much lately either, but I'm sure they'll be back toon.
I'll check back later for the ratings, thanks for always posting those Walter.
@Walter-where's the ratings update? I check every week for what you post ;o)
Ok epi, not my fav, not horrible(anything IS better than season 2). Great Uncle, he needs to come back and I LOVE that Chin has 1,000 uncles. Kid was ok, but gotta say 13 year olds are not my fav thing in life. I guess Steve could see himself in the PIA kid.
LOVE that Catherine could kick a$$ with that guy without smudging her eye liner. Love her anyway, she so humanizes Steve. Who IS hot in a tux for sure.
But as the Christmas episode...meh. I woulda loved to see "the gang" around McGarrett's table with Mama McG passing the taters. Instead we end up at the Shrimp Shak? And no one cares that Chin is alone for the holidays this year? Hopefully Danno does...offscreen.
Schmaltzy - good word, wicked schmaltzy MrWriteSF, but not in a bad way. The leader Madeline, was awesome! Had me laughing with her comments about Steve and then yanks a bullet outta Danno's arm, how cool is she? And all this BEFORE she leads Danno off to search the jungle!
Steve gets a de-merit badge for dragging poor Lucy thru the jungle when he coulda taken out Lame-o Tom Arnold at any time. But then we would not have had a story right? Realism, is not this show's strength, just lay back and enjoy it people.
Kono-leaving your gun on the nitestand, with known felon in the house (see realism note above...oh yeah). I'm not seeing "happy ending" coming out of this relationship anytime soon.
End was cute, didn't see them camping in the house lol. But I'm with Lucy, who else wants to marry Steve?!!
LOL Jim, good review. Your personal hospital experience and drinking game references made me laugh.
I thought for sure Rumer Willis was a goner, due to the old "girlfriend has to die so guy can show angst" rule. I was glad she didn't cause she (like Catherine with Steve) really humanizes Max. I wouldn't mind seeing her again, here and there, maybe dressed up in some kooky outfit as Max seems to like to do. CThomas Howell plays a great bad guy. Naked guy chase was a hoot, especially when Steve dumped Nakie Boy on Kono to arrest. Supermodel stalker case was pretty good, Dan sure did look happy. Always love the Happy Ending type wrap up scene, when H50 does it. The boys clean up good!
If people watch this show for realism, they are gonna go crazy. Just enjoy it for what it is. Last week Kono and Bad Guy jumped outta a moving vehicle and came up fighting without an ounce of road rash (or any other injury). I thought that was stupid but reminded myself what I was watching and let it go.
Mama McG!! Can see where Steve gets his ruthlessness and his "do anything to solve the crime" drive from. Mama don't fool around. Last week she was all weepy and this week, she's torturing a guy. Mama has depth ;o) And yes I think we are NOT supposed to like her.
Crime of the week was good, course you knew Steve could not be wrong (see point about realism above). I too hope she "beats the rap" and returns to drive Steve crazy in the future.
@Steven - maybe Catherine was visting her parents off-island? Shopping with a friend? We don't see Max in every epi but that doesn't mean he won't be back, same for Cath, I'm sure. Better they use her sparingly and not jam her down our throats all the time, least in my opinion.
@Walter, thanks for always posting the ratings - yay!
And was no one else happy to see "Toast" from Season 1 again? "Live long and perspire?" LOL.
Reminded me alot of Season 1 which is always a good thing. Maryanne and Mom subplot - meh. Always good to see just the "Core four" together.
