  1. Downton Abbey Review: Strange Bedfellows

    (continued)

And speaking of that footman, I can see how the sideburns might throw you, but if you want lessons in masculinity, I wouldn't make the Gaelic Mrs. Danvers your first stop.

And speaking of her, when you're invited to someone's home, you don't enter empty-handed and you don't insult your hostess. It's just as well your chickens have come home to roost--you should feel right at home since you were obviously raised in a barn somewhere.

I KNEW Molesley would make a cock-up of it at the cricket match. However I must congratulate him on making cricket sound so....oh, what are the words....BLOODY UNBELIEVABLY BORING!!!!!!!

As for Rose, I'm not sure why she was brought in--I'm guessing they need a new young female character to replace Lady Sybil and this was some kinda test. Rose's character seems destined for a quick exit, but perhaps she'll be back.

One final note to the Crawleys: Do you think Lady Sybil would have liked you to use her memory as an instrument of guilt and emotional extortion? There were WAAAAAY too many references to "what Sybil would have wanted" in this episode.
  2. Downton Abbey Review: Strange Bedfellows

EXCELLENT review Carissa; thank you! This was an amazing episode--we got to see a lot of plot elements unfold AND get resolved in the same ep given the extended length.

Well Carson turned out to be a turd in tails didn't he? The senior staff and even your own master know Thomas is gay and it makes little difference to them. As the reviewer says, get the log outta your ass; if it stays in there any longer, it'll turn to kindling...or matchsticks. Oh...when a footman with less than 1 year on the job blackmails you, HE'S the one you kick to the curb without a character--unless blackmail is something you espouse. And it never occurred to suspect O'Brien in any of this? Your waistcoat too tight?

And speaking of that footman, I can see how the sideburns might throw you, but if you want lessons in masculinity, I wouldn't make the Gaelic Mrs. Danvers your first stop.

  3. Christina Applegate Exits Up All Night

I was underwhelmed by this show but if Kudrow is part of the reboot, it MIGHT have a chance. True Kudrow's "Comeback" didn't help her career, but that was premium cable; more people know her on network TV.
  4. The Big Bang Theory Review: Bert and Ernie Break Up

"The whole Leonard and Penny thing needs to be put to rest. You can only go so long with commitment issues etc."

The same could be said for the Sheldon and Amy thing. I was glad Amy got all up in Sheldon's grill about it. Two years of "dating" and nary a KISS between them? If that ain't lack of commitment, I don't know what is.
  5. NCIS: Los Angeles Review: All Good Indeed

Beth, Season 4 of NCIS:LA may not air in the UK until the season is over in the US. If we have to wait for Downton Abbey to finish IN the UK... :-)
  6. NCIS: Los Angeles Review: All Good Indeed

Kudos to Eric for finding his balls by shutting down the argument between Granger and Sam(?); didja see the worry on his face? ASK HER OUT ALREADY!!!!! :-)

Leaving Nell alone seemed suspicious to me too, but then we wouldn't have seen that whoopass ending!!!
  7. Downton Abbey Review: The Grief Goes On

I could ALMOST forgive Robert for his prudishness under his present circumstances, but Carson? As Roseanne once said on her show, you couldn't drag a needle outta that butt with a tractor.

O'Brien's up to her old tricks I see--out to get Thomas in trouble with the new footman. Meanwhile, with Bates on his way back to Downton, sum'n tells me Thomas's valeting days are numbered.

And though I've said it before:
    1. PLEASE eat something Mary...you look like a swizzle stick.
    2. DISH-whore....right on time.
  8. NCIS Review: Teddy and Rabbit

    @boonies:

    1) Not sure about this. NCIS investigates ALL deaths of naval/Marine personnel. Once NCIS started digging, an unfortunate traffic accident looked less and less likely.

    2) Apparently, the configuration of the windshield crack stirred up a memory.

    3) Yeah...I don't get this one either. I cringed a little when she confronted the grandfather thinking she could solve family problems with a toy. Sure she was an idealistic kid, but how do you NOT pick up on adult vibes?

    4) Agreed--and the father of the Marine was a macho, chauvinistic pig who deserved to lose his wife.

    5) His class clown antics get on my last nerve too.

    6) Yeah...strange. He HAD to have taken his share of chemistry classes; he should have known how to use it.
  9. NCIS: Los Angeles Review: The Scary Guppy

OK...what writer had their tongue firmly implanted in their cheek when writing that prologue? A CA cop operating a handset while driving?
  10. Downton Abbey Review: Goodbye to a Lady

KansasGuest, I'm not sure I agree with you regarding Sybil's prenatal care. Sybil essentially renounced her inheritance in marrying Tom and while Robert did provide her with "some money...not much", I doubt it would have been sufficient to pay for doctors; only at Downton Abbey would her medical care be of no cost to her (with Robert presumably picking up the tab).
  11. Downton Abbey Review: Goodbye to a Lady

...and no comment board would be complete without "Jeremy" whoring himself for DISH.
  12. Downton Abbey Review: Goodbye to a Lady

    (continued)

Thomas, so you DO have a heart after all? I haven't seen you weep like that since that blind soldier committed suicide. Meanwhile, are you SURE flirting with the footman is the best career move?

Anna / Bates...oh just END this ridiculous story line already.
  13. Downton Abbey Review: Goodbye to a Lady

Oh Mary....Mary Mary Mary.... MUST you continue to take pot-shots at your sister when all she wants to do is love you? For those of you not keeping count, Mary has now verbally "tagged" Edith TWICE--including on her misbegotten wedding day. Karma is coming for you milady and it's gonna be a metaphorical gila monster (that's not hyperbole--I inadvertently read a spoiler).

LOVED Isobel's backhanded insult to her uppity cook.

Poor Daisy. Mrs P is right: being mean to Ivy won't make the footman take an interest in you; if anything, you'll drive him away with your abrasiveness.

I wanna see if there are implications for that "doctor" who thought nothing was wrong with Lady Sybil (BTW, do all doctors attend home births in white tie?). In addition to causing Sybil's seemingly needless death, it's led to Robert being banished from the shared bedroom.

Thomas, so you DO have a heart after all? I haven't seen you weep like that since that blind soldier committed suicide. Meanwhile, are you SURE flirting with the footman is the best career move?

Anna / Bates...oh just END this ridiculous story line already.
  14. Hawaii Five-0 Review: I Hate This Place

LURRRRRVED Steve ripping the Gov a new one over the surveillance and the lab delay. And for extra grins and giggles, did the folks in the SUV REALLY think that 5-O wouldn't spot 'em?
  15. Downton Abbey Review: Many Noses Will Be Out Of Joint

Uh...Jeremy...please pimp your company's products somewhere else.
  16. Hawaii Five-0 Review: ...Or Die Trying

I'm sure it's not intentional, but Sang Min just makes me laugh--he's the biggest ham actor I've seen in recent memory--everything from his delivery to his melodramatic smirk is just so completely over-the-top.

And finally...FINALLY...a shirtless Chih-Ho. I'd handcuff him to the bed too--albeit for different reasons than Delano did. ;-)
  17. Downton Abbey Review: Many Noses Will Be Out Of Joint

Tom Tom Tom.....you CAN'T have it both ways. You can't despise England and then live there. You can't rail against the English, in particular, the English aristocracy, and then MARRY INTO IT continuing to rail!!!! An English aristocrat just saved your rebellious ass--be grateful or be gone!!!!!
  18. Elementary Review: Drug Smuggling and Plane Sabotaging

I missed this ep when it first aired, but caught the repeat last night (17 Jan 2013). As much as I enjoyed the twists and turns (you practically needed Dramamine to keep up), it felt a little like an episode of "Cold Case": Suspect A leads to Suspect B leads to Suspect C, who leads back to Suspect A who turns out to be the killer. Fortunately, this hasn't happened in the other eps I've seen, but the writers (and CBS) need to be careful that this doesn't become "Cold Case with a British Accent."
  19. NCIS: Los Angeles Review: Foxy Lady

The undercover scene at the funeral home was a HOOOOOOOOOOT; I can only imagine the conversation that transpired after the show faded to black ("What do you mean 'shorty'?")

I can't help but think that the issue regarding WHERE Prietto died was just "phoned in." I think the writers missed an opportunity for some intrigue there and played it kinda safe. Black market organs are nothing new on these kinda shows.

As for the Rose / Nate thing, I can understand that she feels blindsided and angry at what happened, but she should also understand that she's not above the law and that Nate was doing his job. Why it fell to him just seems cruel on Hetty's part; I can't help but wonder if perhaps Rose wouldn't have been as put off if Sam or Callen(people she's NOT attracted to) or even Kensi (one woman to another), had interrogated her.
  20. NCIS Review: You Are Not Alone

OK...lemme get this outta the way: I misjudged Tony and thought he was a DAMN cool human being tonight; kudos to the writers for giving "Tony the overgrown frat-rat class clown, obnoxious big brother" a vacation.

I hope Bodnar is caught soon and swings from the nearest tree with birds pecking at him and his entire family forced to watch. And then I want world peace. :-) (Tony would probably know the movie I took that from; props if you do)
  21. Hawaii Five-0 Review: I Want It That Way

I liked the idea of a "Clue"-like ending though I didn't vote myself--I didn't know that each time zone could have their own ending and figured that voting on the west coast would close since the east coast would see the show first. Even so, not a bad idea once a season.

Anyway, a couple of details I found kinda funny (apart from Matthew Lawrence who did a pretty job um...growing up *nomnomnom*):

    1. The sorority sister who thought her Vespa could outrun Danny and Steve in their car. And she's in college?
    2. I know it shouldn't be a factor, but I wonder how Johns Hopkins feels about a candidate who did undergraduate work on Oahu.
    3. No Max? No what's-her-name (Steve's "girlfriend")?
  22. Downton Abbey Review: I Don't

And REALLY Mrs. H--you really have NO idea that it was Mrs. P who (inadvertently) told Carson that you MIGHT be sick? Have you MET Mrs. P?
  23. Downton Abbey Review: I Don't

Much as I enjoy this series, I didn't like this particular episode. I guess it's because of what happened to poor Edith and although I do feel they were mismatched, he was a cad for waiting until the last minute. For those of you keeping score, that's three daughters and three weddings we didn't get to see (and BTW, what WAS that bitchy dig from Mary as they were going into the church? What THAT really necessary?).

The letter from Swire absolving Matthew of his guilty conscience was just a tad too convenient, but I'd be curious to see how this "co-master" thing works out within the household.

As for Thomas and O'Brien, I'm with the reviewer--shoot each other and leave the rest of us in peace. Sooner or later their little shenanigans are gonna make Cora and/or Robert look stupid and they'll both end up with permanent footprints on their butts.

As for the big mystery surrounding Ethel, out with it already.

And REALLY Mrs. H--you really have NO idea that it was Mrs. P who (inadvertently) told Carson? Have you MET Mrs. P?
  24. The Big Bang Theory Review: By Thor's Hammer!

I was kinda surprised that they dressed as characters from TNG as opposed to ToS. In earlier seasons, Sheldon has ALWAYS identified with Spock / Leonard Nimoy and we all know about his on-screen animosity toward Wil Wheaton. However, his dressing as Data does make sense since Data's the Spock of TNG--intelligent, logical, unemotional.

The girls' argument was hilarious--the bits the reviewer posted had me on the floor, not to mention Stuart's "I'll turn the hose on you I SWEAR!!!!"
  25. NCIS: Los Angeles Review: Crockett, Tubbs, Krafty and a Sign Spinner

A Mexican stand-off with real Mexicans? The writer sure had his/her tongue firmly implanted in his/her cheek.
