NCIS Round Table: "Damned If You Do"

I don't believe one - characters, or the other - stories, make a show number one. It's both. How well the stories are written and how the actors/characters translate that writing make a wonderful show. They go hand-in-hand. You can't have one without the other.

When they all find out, dynamics and feelings within these characters will have to change. Some for good? Some for bad? Who knows. All I know is I will be very interested to find out. The kiss between Kensi and Deeks and his line about communication was perfect. I thought this was brilliantly played. I thought it came at the right time and in the right situation. Does it mean that these two will become a couple? Not necessarily, but it does mean that there are obvious feeling there and that these two need to have an open and honest conversation. SB said this would be a dark finale and he was right. The only thing is, I could see it possibly getting darker before it ever gets brighter.

I loved this episode. I understand why some were turned off by the torture scenes. They did not bother me as I felt they rang true to the realness of what was going on. The act or even thought of torturing a living being is hard to understand and grasp however, like many have said it is what happens. Those scenes left me feeling more attached to the characters and not so appalled. But that is just me. I cannot wait until this picks back up in the fall. To see the fallout of it and how these characters react will be very interesting. As others have said, there is no way this can leave these characters unchanged. I can't help but think about how Callen will react when he finds out all that has happened to his team members. I think his character could go very dark and take on lots of guilt, which could be wonderful storytelling. Each of the characters (the exception being Sam and Deeks) really don't have an idea of what is going on with each other. As much as I want a decision made regarding these two, I am not sure moving on with others is what I want. I feel like it would leave so many things unresolved and would leave me feeling cheated as a fan. I think I like the bigger challenge of putting these two together and them navigating a relationship that is meaningful. I think this would be a bigger challenge for the writers. In the ten seasons, I have loved most of the finales, the ones mentioned are definitely stand outs, but I also love the Tony/ Ziva Somalia finale. I believe this particular finale is responsible for my somewhat unhealthy concern for these two characters.

I agree with so many of your points. My initial reaction was that Gibbs was not shooting Fornell. However, I like the idea that Doug brings up. We all know that NCIS is not scared to kill of characters, no matter how significant they are. If Gibbs is to take out Fornell, it will surely make for interesting storytelling. @Christine, I agree with you (somewhat) about the Tony/Ziva will they-won't they. I too feel jerked around and am kind of getting tired. I go back and forth with these two. I also thought we might end up with a bigger pay-off between them at the end. It's so hard to say what the writers will do with them. As soon as I think I am over these two, something happens and it pulls me back in. I am not sure they were put into the friend zone. I think calling each other friend is definitely safe for them, but not necessarily the truth for either of them. Also, there was a bit of a hesitation/stutter as Ziva said friendship. I am with Guest! on this one. PP stated on Twitter a few days ago that neither CdP or MH were on any social media outlets. I hope CdP returns, but I want to make sure it comes from a legitimate source.

Not to burst any bubbles but CdP does not have a Facebook page. PP made a statement on her twitter account (a verified account) that CdP was not on any social media. I also saw this rumor on another twitter feed but not sure how true it is. I too have seen that Miss de Pablo has been making the rounds at the CBS Upfronts. I also see this as a good sign that she will be returning. I think her contract has been signed for a while, they were just keeping mum on it through the end of the season for suspense.

If for some reason CdP does not return (which I do not think is the case, I think it is a done deal) I hope this is not how they have written her off the show. Although left open-ended (as are Tony and McGee, but we know they are signed for next season) it just wouldn't feel right if that is how her character left. I would feel cheated as a fan. With that said, I read an interview with GG and although he did not come out and say she was or was not coming back, to me the tone sounded as if she was. Again, I think she will be there. Okay guess I had a lot to say. Look forward to seeing others responses and interpretations, it always makes me think more.

Although the Tiva scenes weren't as big as some would have liked, the moments, especially in this ep, are oh so significant. Although at times I get frustrated with the will they-won't they, I do have to admit, I kind of love it. Like almost everyone else I love that there will be an addition to the Palmer family. I love that so far the writers are keeping this character on the happy side. I think it balances some of the darkness and pain from the rest of the team. I will have to go back and watch this one again bc there are some things I really want to watch and see if there are any ideas, thoughts, clues to help figure some things out. A couple general thoughts. 1) I do not think Gibbs shot Fornell 2) if this goes so high up, where is SecNav? And 3) Tony said at the end (before the trio's resignation) that Ziva may not like how this ends. She responds with the not counting on happy endings comment. This episode was awesome for me. I found myself watching the clock often not wanting it to end. First I have to say that there were many, many wonderful parts of the episode, but my favorite part had to be the end with the voice over from Mike Franks talking about "the honest man". I love this character so much and miss the days of Franks. What he said, I think said so much about Gibbs, the team, and the feel of this show. I thought the show had some humorous parts as well. Miss Abby Sciuto seems to be bringing a lot of the humor lately. PP plays that character so well. I agree with those who believe that TIva is not dead. This relationship (portrayed beautifully by MW and CdP) has always had its ups and downs. This is just one more bump in the road. Happy they are on the up side of things now. I too, think it is hard for them to define their relationship and "friends" seems to be a safe zone.
