Love the family dynamics among the different Reagan generations. One minor quibble. I know they needed some sort of excuse to get Danny and Jackie in the ER but a tummy ache? If Jackie has stomach problems from work stress the ER is not the place to go. I'm sure the unions have seen that the NYPD has a decent medical plan. Despite what Danny says the ER is for emergencies. One final thought if these guys have all this money to waste on fight clubs, maybe the Occupy Wall Streeters are right.
The crux of the story is that the CIA is using missionary groups to collect blood samples from drug cartels. Are we supposed to think senior drug cartel members go to these free clinics for medical care? But of course the CIA did try to poison Castro so his beard would fall out so maybe not as so farfetched for the CIA to try. The last time I recall the CIA being shown in a positive light was Clayton Webb in the old JAG show.
It seems like the writers started with the scenario they wanted played out between Gibbs and Ryan and then to use a phrase used several times in these comments "cobbled together" a plot that would fit it. I half expected SECNAV to tell Wickes when he walked in "You've been punk'd". Two and a half stars. Only reason that high Ryan's Wink Martindale reference to Tony.
Great performance by Ed Asner. Just because the flashbacks were from the original show you can't try and connect the original McGarrett to the new.If you did you would to also connect Danny,Chin, and Kono. Five-0, according to the new show, was created in September 2010. You just have to assume August March was busted by HPD in 1976. Also I believe they went to Kaleo because it was his brother who rammed the police van and was capped by Fryer.Loved the car scenes with Danny's reactions to Steve's driving. Finally Sis has been working for the airline just two weeks (obviously no plug for Hawaiian this week) and she gets the New York-Honolulu run? No way.
"Those who do not learn from the past are comdemned to repeat it" - George Santayana (1905). Federal agencies not sharing information. Where have we heard that before? 9-11.
Very enjoyable change of pace episode. Loved James Caan's one liners: 5-What?, McGruff. Dennis Miller was the latest "now you see him, now you don't" guest star gone before the opening theme but at least he got to do his schtick routine. The episode also featured the weekly "Steve going over the top" routine times four. Instead of issuing a BOLO to HPD, he speeds off on a high speed pursuit (notice Max was not strapped in). He tells the poor security guard who was locked in a bait locker to get lost(if not kidnapping at least unlawful detention). He tosses a tear gas canister into the RV without giving the guy a chance to surrender peacefully. He allows a civilian to interrogate a suspect in custody(and assault him). Just nitpicking I love the show.
Great episode. Looking forward to the next episode with Poppa Caan and Dennis Miller as the guest victim. As I've mentioned previously I love how this show pays homage to the original. Al Harrington who played Mamo was a regular. Dennis Chun who was the HPD SWAT leader is the son of Kam Fong the original Chin Ho Kelly.
Did anyone notice how misleading the promo was for this episode? Diane tells Will to fight the disbarment and next we see Will leaving with a baseball bat. Suggesting that maybe he is going to lay some serious smackdown on somebody. Also if the brother is going to sue the computer guy for the death of his sister, he would need to show a death certificate. A person has to be declared legally dead before you can sue for wrongful death.
Just watched the show again. A few more comments. How did the team get into the dinner? It was $5000.00 a pop. The more I think about it the more insane the plan was to invade the consulate. In today's world the immediate reaction of any security would be to think suicide bomber and shoot first. I think I just answered my own question. Don't think about it - just enjoy the show.
The governor was absolutely right for firing Lori. He cancelled 5-0's "no rules" charter and placed Lori at his watchdog. Given that the team completely ignored his order and she covered for them, it had to happen. He couldn't fire Steve- no more show. All in all very enjoyable episode. One minor issue, did newlywed Chin really think through running a van through the consulate gates? It was a miracle he wasn't shot. Finally I love how this show pays homage to the original. Richard Denning played governor Jameson on the original. The governor on the first season was governor Jameson. The new governor is governor Denning.
Another great episode for Tom Selleck. Danny's lack of professional courtesy toward the Connecticut cop and his backing of the daughter pretty much ended any suspense on who the perp was. His gut feelings seem to be always correct. One final thought- should a cop discuss details of an ongoing investigation at the dinner table with his family?
Currie Graham was Clark. Has been on numerous series going back to NYPD Blue.Alana de la Garza was Diane. She is best known for being ADA Connie Rubirosa on Law and Order. It looks like the series doesn't even bother to try and have a Navy connection anymore. Theft of government property is the FBI. Drugs are DEA.
This show must have set a record for the most factual errors, implausible plot twists, etc in a one hour episode. Just a few: You cannot get to the wheel well of an Airbus 320 from the passenger compartment. The wing is the fuel tank. This guy spent 10 years in the bucket. How was he so knowledgeable about new technology: laptops, new cell phones, gps? Finally Danny shot two people. including one in custody. Doesn't HPD have any policy concerning officer-involved shootings? But I still love this show and enjoy sitting back Monday nights and being entertained
This episode shows why this show is a hit: Tom Selleck. I have mixed feelings about the Danny story line. It showed the stress and difficulty about being a cop's wife, but proper procedure would have been to take him off the case. He was too close and took it personally. Also it was wrapped too neatly to have the perp be a friend. Do the Reagans have any friends who aren't jealous of them? Finally the Reagans do have one flaw - they're Jets fans.
Research groups have conducted polls for years testing people's knowledge of current events such as who is the Vice President, name one of your state's senators, etc. The results are usually not encouraging. Explains the Jeff Foxworthy show "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader". So the panel is true to life.
The problem with this episode is that an hour program is actually about 46 minutes. There were three story lines, Shelburne, Danno, and the delivery truck heist so about 15 minutes per story, so plot lines suffer. Really 5-0 can get somebody out of prison in less than a day? A flamethrower? It looks like a real blood feud between the McGarretts and the Fats. Going on for 20+ years and going on its second generation. Probably will continue for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately.
I'm sorry. I have lost all interest in the Wo Fat/Joe/Yakuza/Steve's Father story line. It makes no sense. In the flashback Steve says he's just beginning his junior year, so the flashback is the fall of 1992, so Steve graduates from high school June of 1994.At least we know Steve will be 36 this year. And what was this "Army-Navy Academy" that Uncle Joe got Steve in while still in high school? Kinda hard to play the annual Army-Navy football game with one team.
Great episode. A couple of comments. What happened to Ray? Did he end up in the DC Clinker on two counts of Murder 1 or did the CIA handle it internally(terminated with extreme prejudice)? Seeing Michael Beach as the detective's partner reminded me of a show I used to watch: Third Watch (he played Doc)I was a big fan and was a member of an on-line forum about the show. Many people were always wanting to see a romantic relationship between the two partners Yokas and Boscorelli just like Tiva. It didn't happen and I hope it doesn't on NCIS. Just my opinion.
I was a big fan of the old H50 with Jack Lord and enjoy the current one as well. At the end of the day I like to sit back and just be entertained, so I realize its just TV and not real life. But the scene on the cliff bothers me. If Steve is still a Seal then he's bound by the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) and I sure kidnapping and threatening to kill a civilian violates a few of the Articles of the UMCJ. But as I said its just TV and I plan to continue to watch the show.
One Star. The worst episode of the season. Thia Shelburne/Wo Fat/Yakuza story arc better have one heck of a finish. It's dragging right now. Can someone explain the plot of this week's case? Bad Chinese steel? If they wanted him off the jury, why not just run him off the road or mug him? Why not just pay off the injured worker with a big settlement with a confidentiality clause? Finally I could possibly understand Steve and Danno's actions if was to prevent another 9-11 type incident but to tear up the Constitution for a single homicide. NO!
Agree completely. Cheesy episode. So a cheesy comment to wrap up the year. Who had the toughest job this week? Not Gibbs-delivering a baby. Not Ziva-taking on two Russian mercs by herself. Not McGee-dealing with a federal bureaucrat who did not want to be bothered. Not Palmer- dealing with the future father-in-law from hell, but Tony who was ordered to clear the mall store while Gibbs and Ziva were checking the dressing rooms. Try clearing a store on Christmas Eve full of last minute shoppers. Lucky Tony wasn't gang pepper sprayed.
It's hard to condemn Fryer for just being an old school cop when Danny and Chin question a suspect with a live hand grenade. Yes, I know it's standard 5-0 technique, remember the shark cage scene from last year, but a question to Chin you discover some WW2 hand grenades and you don't immediately call the bomb squad? 60+ year old munitions tend to be very unstable. Your getting married in a few days and you let Danny play with them. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? Also nice to see the show continuing some old police myths like each set of handcuffs has a unique key.
Did I miss something? People are saying Peter started the investigation on Will. Wasn't the investigation started by Glenn Childs with information from Blake Calamar, the real target being LG client Lemond Bishop? Dana and Cary briefed Peter on the case, he told them to continue because of the drug connection ( one of his criteria for continuing old cases ) and he then recused himself because his wife worked for LG and appointed Wendy as a special prosecutor. Hopefully Peter is following the old political adage: Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer.
