I want Chuck and Blair, Nate and Jenny, Serena and Carter (mostly i just want Carter on the show), Vanessa and Dan. But im hoping it will be a long time till they all get with the right people, take it from Chair its not that interesting.
i have to say that i totally agree with the sentiment about carter. i am glad they are going there with nate and serena cause they just sort of dropped that whole dyamic but i also want to see some resolution to nate and jenny. scarter was awesome and carter is the best so anything that brings him back full time, they should do. icing on the cake would be to rekindle scarter. maybe a nate-serena-carter triangle down the road?
blair was back this episode for sure. i loved her line "I have an army to build, a school to take over, and girls to blackmail." if for no other reason than it felt like a total shout out to the princess bride "i have a wedding to arrange, my wife to murder and guilder to frame for it. i'm swamped" and because cyrus was vizzini i choose to beleive the reference was intentional.
i really like olivia this episode and was sorry to see her go although i was happy with how they handled her exit, i feared for the worst after carter's uncerimonious disappearence. i also loved nate this episode who has always been a meh character for me but recently is evolving into someone awesome.
serena definitely makes the worst decisions. i like how she found the flimsiest excuse to go ahead and become the other woman. jenny's character gets better and better. i like how reckless and ruthless and self destructive she is and we need that now that chuck has outgrown his self destructive tendencies.
this episode was great. loved it.
i love georgina and i think she is fantastic as a recurring character who just shows up for stretches at a time to stir up trouble. i think the powers that be should really try to keep her arrivals under wraps though so it has more of an impact.
i really liked this episode and have been enjoying season 3. i think they are focusing more on longer term storylines that unfold over episodes with twists and turns as opposed to one omfg moment after the other. my one complaint is how they kicked carter tot he curb. i feel like that was a cop out. if he was just a tool to bring serena and nate together i will be pissed because carter is an AWESOME character and i want more!! he is also my favorite match for serena.
on the vanessa thing: i am not a huge fan of her character. mainly because she is as judgmental as dan and as ruthless and selfish as blair which is a bad combo. couple that with the fact that she is supposed to be nice and genuine and you have a total hypocrite. that said i think she is a great foil for blair and you need some people to be enemies in this show.
i know a lot of people have a problem with her because they feel she never gets her comeuppance, unlike blair, but i think its more that we don't really care enough about her to recognize when she does get puishment for her actions. like in last night's episode. she ended up damaging her relationship with her mother. that is pretty bad. she and blair ended up in the same circumstance, having hurt the people they care about and being so alone the other person they could turn to was their mortal enemy.
marlena, well said! i won't even comment because you've said it all.
i will comment on serena and carter. i am loving this story and interested in serena for the first time in a long time. face it, i love carter. keep him around. i think he is good for serena, a better match than nate, because he doesn't really entertain her nonsense and gets her to be straight with him. she needs someone with a little edge, it's about time she got him.
i would be into this as long as they wrote it well. i actually liked these 2 together but hated the way they ended it last season. it was sloppy and unrealistic and i felt like they just rushed through it cause they wanted to do the nate/blair story. vanessa has been my favorite pairing with nate and she is at her most likable with him.
Jkay - i am not defending this writing choice but i feel like the reason that they have blair struggle so much is so that they can also have her be a ruthless bitch and people won't hate her. it's her "sympathetic" side. if she was a total bitch and also got the free ride that serena gets i think she would be a really unlikeable character but if they make it so she is always struggling then we have empathy and see her vulnerable side and root for her even though half of what she does is pretty mean and messed up. don't get me wrong, i love blair and her bitchiness but objectively if someone told you about a girl pulling half the stuff she does you'd be like "what a bitch!" i am not saying this isn't a pretty cheap and easy formula (because it is) but i get why they do it. that said i think it's time to try something different.
not surprised at ALL about serena not going to college but being roomies with chuck is an awesome idea. i love the two of them together. such a good idea.
hooray! my greatest wish for season 3, second only to sebastian stan being upgraded to regular. i have been hoping they would bring back jack. he is a perfect foil for chuck and he is so perfectly evil but still funny. i loved his episodes and thought they got rid of him in a quick and dirty fashion and i was disappointed by it. i get that it allowed chuck and lily to reconcile so i decided i would forgive them as long as they brought jack bass back. writers, you are forgiven. don't screw up again. jack bass is epic.
think about it. if chuck and blair were trying to transition from the games they played and the angst that drove their interaction before into a loving and committed relationship wouldn't that transition be awkward? if they felt compelled to continues the games because they were insecure (which we know they both are to some degree) about lasting but were trying to find games that didn't undermine their commitment wouldn't that be awkward? i think their relationship is being portrayed really realistically and with a little twist we should expect. the writers would be doing them a disservice if they DIDN'T take time to have chuck and blair find out what really works for them in order settle in to a comfortable relationship with each other and stay passionate.
vanessa's line about the murder/suicide was hilarious. i am hopeful that her character will have good stories this year and finally make sense as a person we give a crap about. i liked her in last night's episode.
i thought the episode was great. i think the chuck and blair thing was sort of a sweet subplot. they introduced the start of future trust issues but they also gave the fans who agonized last season some of the things they wanted. chuck supporting blair and trying to please her, the line "i'm not chuck nass with out you". things will get more complicated, and interesting but this was a nice cute interlude.
serena and carter was everything i hoped for and more. carter was amazing, of course, and i think this story, her searching for her father, their relationship, his character, is going to be awesome. last year was really blair's year, maybe this year will be serena's.
i loved the vanderhumphrey dynamics. and i liked v and her tension with dan. scott is pretty dry so far, don't really get why vanessa would be into him (other than the pretty factor). we'll see where the story goes. weakest link so far.
overall this episode made me the most interested i have ever been in nate's family story and the most interested in all the characters at once so i consider that pretty good!
i totally expected chace to sound dopey and nate-fused in his interview! that is terrible of me. leighton and jessica were so cute together. i cracked up when jessica said "a LOT of money". and blake seems so genuine. what a nice cast.
god, i love sebastian stan. i am so excited to hear that some of the things i hoped for the carter/serena storyline are coming to fruition. i really was into the idea that carter has a thing for serena, like holds a torch for her, and is the one really pushing for their relationship. so glad they are going that direction. the competing for attention thing sounds like a interesting and fresh dynamic. i think they are a great pairing and i am so excited for that plot line.
connor is adorable and matthew settle is really well spoken and intelligent, very perceptive,
i am really excited about the serena/chuck falling out. first off, i love their dynamic and a fight between those particular characters is not something we have really seen before. and recruiting carter is awesome because it means 1. more crater 2. carter/serena 3. carter/chuck rivalry.
aweseome.
i also love the episode titles. why not have fun in that way? plus which, gossip girl, the show, is peppered with clever references to pop culture, literature, film etc and often times the dialog is clever and uses puns in the same way. i think it is very fitting that the episode titles are referencial in that way as well.
i am too old to be that familiar with hilary duff as an actress so i will wait and see if she is good or not. i do think she is an absolutely gorgeous girl and so far, from set photos, she seems to have pretty good chemistry with penn so i am looking forward to the story line. i think she looks good with the cast too, i like the cast of gossip girl because they have unique looks, each one is pretty in a different way and she fits right in with that. anyway, i am looking forward to it because i don't know what to expect.
chuck: hey sis. humphrey.
serena: hey chuck. do you have the same hairstylist as poppy lifton?
dan: it looks better on you.
chuck: you really are gay, aren't you humphrey?
and, sorry gossip guy, but i can't tell you the problem via the "contact us" link because it is blocked by the disclaimer/copyrite banner that is floating in the middle of my screen! so i will tell you here: i am using a p.c. and internet explorer and the issue is that the banner that says "Gossip Girl Insider and any images and content contained on this site relating to "Gossip Girl" are not authorized by CW... etc" is across the middle of the page and blocking site content. thanks for the new look and for fixing the issues!!
ah, even better. i like that you played with the colors a little. the gray background and the 2 tones for the comments are much better. now i can officially say i really like the new look much better!! also, am i the only one who kind of loves nate's head just sticking up there at the bottom? it sort of embodies who nate is to me and it cracks me up!
