126. NCIS: Los Angeles Season Finale Review: Checkmate

     Of course Hetty and Callen will be back with NCIS, the show would be awful without them. The scene had to be staged, the question is what will they show come the season opener. Callen won't be doing any undercover work even though it was staged, his face will be all over the news. So it will be interesting to see what they have in store. I rather liked the whole episode, and felt it was a good cliff hanger. Can't wait until next season.

     Until I read your review, I did not know that McCallum signed for 2 yrs. I agree they may still kill him off, but that would be costly for the show. So I was relieved to hear that there is a good chance Ducky will survive. Although he played the heart attack very well, I was worried and shocked at that scene. I liked this finale very much. I actually liked JLC's character, not for Gibbs though, and I also think that there is something more to her that will destroy that relationship for sure. But I think she plays Dr. Ryan very well. I'm not a Tiva fan, and will never be, but I do like that Tony and Ziva do have deep feelings for one another, I just don't want the walking down the aisle kind. I agree that this team is very much family, and loved that Jimmy pointed that out and his finance stuck by him when he wanted to change their wedding plans. They are cute together. It will be a long summer trying to figure out what happened to each. I think a 2 hour opener should be done also.

     Jschoi....I was happy to see Grace and Daniel get some recognition also. They deserve it. I think the writers are finally hearing us, that we want more Kono and Chin. It took the last half of the 2nd season to pick things up for both of them. I hope they continue next season and beyond. This is also good for H50 even if they don't win.

     OK, I'm with you. I think H50 deserves some of this stuff. I the season 2 DVD comes out early in the summer. Would love to see all the cut scenes.
     
     Walter....I understand what you are saying, but I just don't mind the unrealistic. It is TV, and I just want to be entertained, and this show does it for me. I like coming home and having the work day and reality put behind me for a little while. I have police officers in my family, and if everything was done by the book, no one would watch because its too long and boring for the most part. I know we hear about officer involved shootings a lot, but compared to all the officers across the country and in the world, most of them actually have to fire their guns very few times during their careers. H50 does it every episode, that's why we watch.

     @Martinelli....NCIS LA was awesome also and H50 could have been 2 hours, but I don't know if that takes an extra week or not to film a 2 hour. I don't know if these have to be planned well in advanced, NCIS LA did 23 episodes also, but the last one was 2 hours. I would have liked to have Chin getting Delano out of prison explained more, I still thought this was an awesome finale, but it could have easily been 2 hours. Fryer's wife got cut out, so maybe they cut out a lot to fit into the 1 hour.
     
     How about who will be playing Steve's mom. Betty White was the joke, but she is more his grandmother. Lindsey Wagner was one who played the Bionic Woman in the past. One of the original Charlie's Angels. Steve has dark hair and Mary is blonde, so it does not seem to matter what color hair she has. It will be interesting.

     @Kelly.....I loved the explosion also. I thought they did a great job on that, really good filming and acting. Alex did great all thru the episode. When his Mom opened the door and they closed in on his face, you could see his expression change as he realized who it was. You could see him start to tear up, it was perfect, great acting.
     
     I'm still hoping Adam rescue's Kono. Peter Lenkov said that the season 3 opener will take place a second after the finale so we will get to see the son/mom reunion, and I am assuming we will also get to see how Kono survives. It will be worth the wait I'm sure.

     @jschoi....I'm with you, I mean I can see people's points. You said it though, how much entertainment would Kono/Fong be compared to Kono/Adam. In real life we would be all over a friend that would actually be with someone who has questionable ties, but its not real life. It's a fantasy world, so why not just enjoy the ride, and not think that Kono is stupid or childish.
     Love does weird things to perfectly sane people.

     I think that Peter Lenkov said that they "were going to break Chin, "break him down and then build him up". Then he said, "we want to take things away from him and see how he deals with it. We are deliberately altering his character". It might be just me, but I don't see that as Kono or Malia being dead. I'm sure he is in trouble for letting Delano out of prison and then he walks away. At least they are giving DDK a really good story line for season 3. He deserves it.
     
     I know a lot of people don't like that Doris McG left her children, but we haven't even heard the reason as yet. I think a mother would do anything to protect her children, even not be around. I'm saying I would be able to do it, but I think we should just wait and see what they have in mind. I'm really excited about season 3.

     Cont... Kono will be fine, I am hoping they have Adam save her. Poor Chin is going to be messed up for a while. What a horrible situation he was put in. It would make sense that he would go for his wife. Danny go head to head with Rachel next season should also be good. I hope the dirt flies, Rachel deserves it. This was a great episode, sorry so many have disagreed, but I will be watching next season with great anticipation. I'm sure 5-0 will get "toothpick" and Delano and I can't wait, these were truly nasty people. Thank you H50, I did not agree with the whole season, but I think that the second half was great. Thanks for sticking by Alex and doing a good job cover for him.

     I thought this was a great episode. It had a lot of action. The explosion scene was done very well. The villians in this one sure give Wofat some competition for evil. Jim...you did call his Mom, a long time ago, at that time I did not think of that. I don't understand why people think a mother would not do anything to protect her own children, including leaving them. There are many good loving mother's who have given up their children, because they knew that they could not give them the life they deserve. We don't know the whole story yet. I agree to a point that once Steve became a seal, his father should have explained what had happened. Lets give the writers a chance to have the mother explain her situation. I anxious to see who they get to play Steve's mother.

     Another promo out that shows them all running from the explosion. It looks great. The new villian looks like he is going to be pretty nasty. The actor has been tweeting as the character, he will be in the season opener, so he will be part of the cliff hanger.
     
     Still rumors about Grace Park. The show would not be the same without her, and I don't think they would do that unless she chose to leave. Which I find that hard to believe, but anything is possible. I think she is finally coming into her own with the character. I'm thinking more of a...we think she might be dead, but really isn't. I guess we will find out tonight.

     I have to agree that Wainwright is involved somehow with Red John and have thought that from the start. Never trusted someone so young being the head of the CBI. It's hard to tell if Jane is faking it or not, that's what makes him such a great con man. But, I find it hard to believe he does not have something up his sleeve to lure Red John out of hiding. I did not notice the person lurking to the side as others have said. I guess if there was, it could be Red John or a disciple. We will have to wait and see. I did like that Grace said the guy deserved it, and you are right, she is not he innocent little girl she was when the show started. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of cliff hanger they will have for next week.

     I also like the family dinners and showing their religion without being fanatics. I am not particularly religious, but I enjoy the fact that these are normal people, doing their jobs, being family, like everyone else, and showing their beliefs, but not pushing them on anyone else. Its great to see a family having sunday dinners, and yet have the same problems that most others have. I like the prayer at the end, but I was hoping for a little more for a finale. The episode itself was good, and showed how strong Frank is as a person and a leader, but I was hoping for something more. I will however continue to watch this show, and look forward to next season.

     I liked this episode. I always thought that Dr. Ryan was a little too shady for someone like Gibbs. I have even more doubts that she is a good-guy after this last episode. I kind of hoping she is bad, I did not mind her so much before, but now, she just gives me the creeps. However, I think JLC plays her just the way she should and is doing a good acting job. I hope people stop with the Activa references, its getting really old. Overall looking forward to the finale.

     I thought Kensi and Deeks were adorable together, however, it did not change my mind. I still don't like team members being involved romantically. That does not mean that they can't flirt here and there, which is what they do.
     I also could not believe that they did not get that the couple were swingers.
     As far as not seeing the gay neighbors as the Russians, I thought all were suspects, that was the idea of the episode, to find out who really was. As it turned out all, but the swingers and the mom with the 2 boys weren't involved. Callen and Deeks are taking a page from H50's McG and Danny, with the bickering. They seem to be doing this more often the last few episodes then they have in the past. Can't wait to see the finale.

     I had mentioned before that I thought perhaps Adam told them to bring Wofat back, but the guy that was shot by Kono, overruled him somehow, and had them try to kill both Steve and Wofat. Adam wanted Wofat back to torture him for killing Hiro. That's why all the plastic on the floor and the single chair. If Adam tried to kill Steve, then I say throw away the key, but if he did not, then maybe he is not as bad as we think. I'm not saying he is an angel, but getting body parts of your father in the mail would probably make anyone go to the dark side. If he is really trying to go legit, then I think Kono and Adam would make a great couple and I hope they continue this story line.

     @gael.....they did not really say who's blood was in the tub, but I'm assuming that it was Hiro's. Since they cut him up and sent pieces of him back to Adam.

     Truly great episode. I love Kono and Adam together, but I don't know if she can forgive being tied up by him. I understood him going after Wofat, but not caring if Steve got in the way made me mad. It may have been the Yakuza lawyer that was pushing him, but they would need to show me more of what I was hoping he was before I would want him near Kono again. It may turn out that Adam told them to bring both back alive, since he had the room prepped for a torture, and the lawyer was responsible for them trying to kill them both.
     
     Loved the fight scene with McG and Wofat, actually cheered when he hit Wofat in the head and knocked him out. I love kick ass Steve. Alex does look great and I'm so thrilled. I think the deep throat CIA guy will be around a little longer. I don't think that they would let Danny being kidnapped go so easily.

     @Amazingalex......Thanks, I appreciate no one saying anything. Lucky you less than an hour. I'm really excited about this episode, and the finale. Sad that the season is almost over, but then that means 2 weeks closer to season 3. This should be exciting.

     @Amazingalex.....I just read DDK's interview. I that he said that "we have Alex back, and I feel we are much stronger all together as a group". I love how they all stand by each other and know that any one of them gone for a long period of time would hurt the show. That's why I'm not worried about Grace Park. DDK certainly is making the rounds, and he always says the right things.
     
     Can't wait for tonight. I'm on the west coast, so I have another 4 hours to go.

     @Jschoi.....I could be wrong, but I'm not worried about Kono at all. People spread rumors all the time. I can't see her getting rid of a hit show so easily, especially since they are starting to finally give her some story lines. I think she is fine.
     
     As for Catherine, I like her in a relationship with Steve, not as a team member. As I said with Kono, team members together don't work out, I feel the same with Catherine. I will, however, not get upset about anything, I will wait and see what develops with season 3. I don't want another, you know who problem, sorry don't want to say her name either.

     Well, I voted for Adam, but to tell the truth I was not sure. This should be a great story line. I do like Adam with Kono, but since it seems he is bad, I hope Kono gets rid of him, or Chin. McG has his own problems with the Yakuza, the plane scene looks awesome. I wish it was night already.
