I don't think people are getting past their ship differences though. Most of the conversation that I seem to see involves people agreeing with each other or people getting aggravated by and storming out after what they seem to think is an appropriate parting jab.

Agreed.  But I don't think that people can be argued or bullied into a ship preference.  That's because shipping in my experience is an emotional response to what's in book/TV/movie/comic/fanfic canon.  You can't rationalize people's gut feelings.

I'm all for calm conversation, but the moral superiority is tremendously tedious, in my opinion.

I see.  My opinion is very different. When people are online, we see only what they choose to present about themselves.  We're all relatively anonymous here, even if people know some details about people's RLs, chat, are on FB/Twitter/Tumblr, etc.   From my point of view, when Chair vs. Dair dissolves into the GG equivalent of FOX News Channel where reasonable adults are screaming at each other as if they are assholes instead of rational human beings?  To me, that's tedious and a huge turn-off.

And I find it patronising that people have to keep repeating that everyone doesn't have to agree. I would hope that anyone who's able to find their way to this forum would know that they don't all have to have the same opinion.

This can end up being pretty circular.  You find it pointless for people to repeat that we're all different.  I think people bashing GG viewers for their ship preferences is silly.  All someone knows about a given poster is their handle, their real name & some details about them if they choose to share, and what they think about a TV show on the CW.  In order to say someone supports abuse or sucks, I need more information.

I just think Chair and Dair fans are two kinds of people.  As with all shipper differences, it goes way, WAY deeper than just characters on a show.  I find it so odd that because someone sees the world differently from another person, that other person SUCKS SO BAD OMG!!!.  SMH.  And TBH that's just as childish as...

Bottom line -- Why the hell does anyone post anything on the internet at all?  LOL!  And yet, we're here.

I don't know what ya guys are talking about but I would vote for Marie for president. Thing is she is direct and to the point and tells it as she sees it. She'd get shit done quickly and well.

@Leee

I didn't address any of the points she made because I didn't bother reading her post since she started it out by attacking me. Also, what's the point in arguing with someone like that? Neither of us will change our minds, and I'd rather not continue our conversation because we'll just keep making the same points and miss marie doesn't seem like a very pleasant person. (obviously)

I don't understand why it's so hard to be civil but obviously some people just can't deal with the fact that not everyone has the same opinion.

Sooie, I am conflicted. On one hand, I ship you and me. But on the other hand, I think you deserve better. Do you think you and I have a chance?

I see two levels to this question, personally. I shall adress both herein:

1. I think I can do a lot better than you. It's very uneven and I think being friends is the best possible result. I think the end was a step in the right direction. I do, however, think a (possibly) separated dectective inspector is right up my alleyway. (He's gorgeous, I'm sorry, and it kind of side-tracks Sooie). I wouldn't mind talking on this subject a lot more, actually. So share your opinions.

2. I love you and I think you should move here and we can enjoy the pleasant weather and I shall cook and we can travel, and go to concerts and the cinemas. And we shall need to get a cat.

Do you honestly think that this is happening? Is there even the smallest possibility that anyone can change anyone's mind?

To me, that's tedious and a huge turn-off.

It's very lucky, then that you're here now and not a couple of years ago.

You find it pointless for people to repeat that we're all different.

I do. I said so in my original post.

I reckon that people are going to behave how they want. No-one's going to change their tune by something an anonymous stranger says. You just treat people how you'd want to be treated and not try to be a monitor.

Your words, not mine.

Yes, they are my words. I said them. It'd be nice if I wasn't talked down to, actually. I promise you I can follow if you don't condescend.

Oh, this is...just... sorry, give me a minute to fangirl over my own ship!   I love you too!!!  And our future cat!  And you are an awesome cook judging by all the recepies that I've read.  And Cupcakes is definitely a foodie person.   Sorry, still fangirling.

You don't ship the dectective with your brother, do you? I'm surprised by the number of people who do that. But Cupcakes, he's gorgeous. Isn't he? Do you see that or is it just me? And he totally has the hots for me. (I am going to revert to third person henceforth, because this is getting too much like role-play for me).

I don't know, I think with he who is not dead, there'll always be an uneven balance. And I think it's a lot like a girl-ish crush. Sometimes it's easier to fancy someone you have no chance with, because you know exactly what's going to happen -nothing. That's how I'm starting to see her and him. I don't doubt that she doesn't love him, but I think it's a lot like putting him on a pedestal, and I don't see that working out. And I know I'm reaching as far as the detective inspector is concerned, but he is a good man. And I say, why not him? Since his wife is totally an adulterous hag.

Yes, he is good looking.  I also did some Tumblr research...what can I say?  You might be one lucky woman!

Oh, I definitely agree with this.   I live my life like this.   I mean the real I.

Wee! I loved that gif. I sat giggling at it for a few seconds. I don't know how he does it, but everything Gatiss/Mycroft does is absolute genius. I have an intellectual crush on the man.  Although, I was less than impressed with what he did there to his baby brother. You just don't do that.

You have to be careful when you're looking silver fox up on Tumblr during your research (I swore I was never going to use that word in my life. I had sworn). And I am assuming you will know exactly what I mean there ;). Which raises an interesting point, who'd cheat on him? Why would you cheat on him? And I'm going to stop gushing, because Lee might see this, and she's got dibs.

Well I think that's why Molly's such a favourite. I mean, Loo's lovely, which helps a lot, but I can she's someone most of the women watching can identify with. There's nothing wrong with her, is there? It was actually my most recent epiphany, what if you're not meant to get what you think you want? What if it's not what you want?

(I'm sorry if I confused you there, lol. I think a couple more epiphanies like that and I might actually be allowed to sit at the adult's table, haha)
