Overall, I feel like this episode was pretty useless. It was, for the most part, a complete retread of everything we've already been over in TVD: first day at school, bonfire party, Stefan's blood addiction, etc. It felt like a mash-up of past episodes with just a few original clips thrown in and not a whole lot happening.

Really though, the worst bit for me was Rebecca. I mean, thousand+ year old Original Vampire showing up for school, trying out for the cheerleading squad, showing off a round of backflips and wanting to take Caroline's place in the popularity scale? Really? Did you have to throw it in my face that hard that this is a show marketed to teenagers? Normally TVD is more sophisticated than that.

The worthwhile parts were pretty much just the ones with Katherine awakening Mikael, and sadly that only took up about two minutes. Faux-drunk Elena was pretty entertaining too. Oh, and I liked the two second training scene with Alaric. It's about time Elena figured out that, with all the danger she's always in, she needs to be able to protect and defend herself. Funny though how she was able to build that muscle and put meat on her bones in the span of about 12 hours. I guess all it takes is one lap around the track and a single set of benchpressing.

Oh, and the ghosts. I could pretty much care less about Vicki and Anna, but I'm intrigued by the possibility of seeing Jenna again, and hopefully getting around to meeting the original witch who made the curse and the original Petrova, which it seems like it's winding down to.

P.S. Does anyone think they'll actually kill off Katherine? I have a hard time believing they would, but with this new ghost plot device they've got going on... Also, I don't think Mikael would realistically leave her alive, considering that he's a vampire hunter and so much more powerful than her. How would she get out of it? And why was she so uncharacteristically stupid as to go and free the more-dangerous-than-Klaus vampire hunter on her own in the first place? That's not our Kat.

I actually agree with what someone posted earlier, I thought this episode was a great signpost for the pilot episode. I did notice that Elena was walking out of the boy's toilets, however, it skipped my mind to think that she was doing the exact same thing when she first ran into Stefan a year ago (or rather two seasons ago). It's consistent - the first day of school, cheerleader tryouts, football practice, the bonfire - it's a nice reminder that this is actually a TEEN show marketed at teenagers for that specific reason.

I am liking that Elena is getting a bit of fight in her now - starting the episode off with her practising with Alaric and failing (because she wasn't 'strong' enough) and then ending the episode with her stabbing Stefan (and her use of the word 'strong' in her dialogue) was a great arch - it's what got scriptwriting is all about. I kinda laughed when Stefan called her pathetic (good on him haha) and then to have her stab in retaliation rather than run off crying was fantastic.

Also, I love ripper Stefan. I love his non-humanity. The sexual tension between both of them in this episode was absolutely phenomenal; I haven't been this excited to see Stefan and Elena get back together in ages! (Not since season 1 after their first breakup). The jogging scene when Stefan was being the jerk type, and then throwing the other guy to the ground for bumping into Elena? Fantastic. The catch scene? Perfection. The stare between them was amazing. Brilliant actors!

All in all, I'm excited to see what is going to happen with Michael and Klaus - I seriously doubt Katherine is dead, what an anticlimax! And also Tyler... an interesting turn of events! Can't wait for next week!

SE made me yawn and DE, though they were cute, I still didn't care.

Another bit that I pretty much fear.

Remember Damon talking about that sometimes vampire's get "sired" when turned by other vamps?Wanna bet thats how they will force DE relationship upon us? And then Elena will come over it through her true and sugary love for steff.

Bassically the show regressed and destroyed everything that was good about it, while trying to grab back its "glory days" and made everything new(minus ghosts) seem incredibly dull and boring.

This so much. Hate ever damn original in tv show. They are decent vampires, but htey are in no way acting liek ORIGINALS should.

Normally TVD is more sophisticated than that.

Disagree. No its not. And it gets worse each season.

It's about time Elena figured out that, with all the danger she's always in, she needs to be able to protect and defend herself.

Except she did not. IT as all about bAWWWW STEFFAN DOES NO LOVE ME ANYMOAR.

Does anyone think they'll actually kill off Katherine?

She is not an extra and only extras die in this show. If she dies she will get better in five seconds afterward just like every other damn character.

That's not our Kat.

Sadly, that Kat disappeared after Masquerade. And soon our klaus will disappear too.

(and her use of the word 'strong' in her dialogue)

Yes it made her look like a bella swan. ]

it's what got scriptwriting is all about.

Except this show has none of it. Don't get me wrong, tis entertaining. But its popcorn, like Heroes was and like most of soaps are.

And then Elena will come over it through her true and sugary love for steff. From what I read about the books, isn't this how they developed a strong relationship there? And, oh well, after ruining Delena more and more, and judging by how self-righteous Elena is portrayed on the show, that's probably the only thing that could make Elena pick Damon. Because, you know, like Stefan, there has to be a supernatural force to break them apart.

Oh, But wait! Elena will even fight that and jump into Stefan arms even if she is sired by Damon. Because their love is epiiiic!!! I hope she runs into some walls along the way.

From what I read about the books, isn't this how they developed a strong relationship there?

But in the books, there was no special concept for that. Just like Steff could be freaking cold and ruthless without any Ripper excuse

And  it was more of her only having partial memories of everything (so she did not recognise Steff, but did recognise Damon  because he was the one who turned her). After she got her brain together again from trying to rip people's throats off and sulking for death, she was back to being awesome badass ruthless elena, but with fangs.

There was no "overcoming this affection" and she did not act like brainwashed freak Tyler does. And afterward she pretty much decided she loved both Steff and Damon(till certain event made reader think she actually loves Damon more)

It just seems to me that this ghost's appearance would mean that all of the ghosts want to kill Elena because if they do the original witch is going to bring them back to life!)

I actually liked the episode. Normally TVD has like 5 billion things going on at once but like for this ep while a lot was going on, most of it didnt really have much of a purpose.... But idk it was a nice change.... I loved the parallels it had to the pilot ep.... and the way the characters were shown....

I don't really get what point you're trying to make by picking apart certain responses and then adding your own feedback. Is it that my opinion is somewhat invalid? I'm majoring in Cinema Studies, and so I think I can tell a good script from a bad one - and I think what you mean to say is that you feel her saying that she is "strong" is a bit of a cliche, which I agree with to some extent. But it doesn't detract away from the quality of the writing. You can't say after an amazing two seasons of TVD that it isn't good scriptwriting, unless you're Quentin Tarantino or Steven Spielberg (because then you'd be excused). I really don't understand haters, if the show's writing is bothering you so much - write your own damn fanfiction, I dare you to come up with something better!

Have a quiestion:

if this super mega Original Witch has a power to bring back Vicki so why wouldn't she show up and come to this real world to kill Klaus? Is it the way the story is going?

Vampire Diaries Quotes

You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure, and even a little danger... I want you to get everything you're looking for. But for right now, I want you to forget that this happened. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet. Goodnight, Elena.

Damon

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
