Meh this show just can't pull off any sort of plotline depending on morality of character.
- Allison going cray in Teen Wolf was exciting and fascinating and greatest thing to happen to her in the show so far
- Buffy's cray-ness and overall darkening over the seasons was great character growth
- Bo's constant cray-ness and shifting sense of morality is one of the most fascinating things in Lost Girl for me.
- Snow White going all Snow Dark and slowly turning into Regina2 is one of the MOST fascinating things in OUAT.
- Even Charmed(CHARMED OF ALL FUCKING THINGS), had some decent character plots based on morality of their actions.
TVD failed to make it work with Steffie, they will fail even more with Elena, because, unlike with Steffdward, who still had basic character development, Elena has none and way too many excuses to get any.

Elena 3.0 was awesome! I know most of you wont agree, but such a huge improvement imo! Maybe its because my expectations are so low at this point. Regardless, found myself enjoying this episode

That's just a puppet with no real agency.
That's like calling S4-ATS Cordy "Evil Cordelia" or Soulless Sam an "EVIL Sam" - they mean jackshit for the real character and the real character has 45452456746746 excuses to whitewash that shit.
Its no different than the bitch being possessed and does not change who Elena is.
These writers could not do "character turns evil" plot even if to save their lives.

The bitch aint evil, she's just lost. At this point, she don't know who the hell she is. She's mimicking some of Damon, some of ripper Stefan, & some of Katherine. She's like a lost baby vamp who is searching for a way to cope with the lost of her whole family and using the no humanity bullshit as an excuse to act like she's tough shit. I bet if she had a dream of Jeremy with him telling her how she's acting like a female dick version of Damon, she would sit her ass down and get herself together before she gets her neck snapped and a stake in her heart. Being too cocky is not attractive or cute, but it's rather pathetic. Everybody is tippy toeing around her because she's the poor lost girl right now. She didn't lose that much of her humanity because if that were true she wouldn't have gotten a little jealous when she saw Stefan & Caroline dancing and having a good time without her, and she wouldn't have said the touchie touchie things to Damon. When you turn it off, it's off, period!!!!
