Since if I remember correctly we had him chatting with bloodbecky and then he got that encounter with Anna in the library when he was searching for vampire books. And from the way both virtual talks and his scenes with anna were paralleled each other and that he stopped talking to bloodecky when Anna revealed who she is sort of implies towards that.

When he was chatting with bloodbecky he had no idea about who Anna is yet, it was before the whole Anna-kidnaps-elena stuff too.
He never really "remembered' he read the ELena's diary with every little spicy bit in thar(Elena, elena, you don't write about your skeletons in your closet in your diary...you just...don't).

Let's hope its actually RIPPER STEFAN PAST OF AWESOME AND RIPPERNESS and not "LETS WATCH STEFAN BE GUILTY AND EAT SOME PEOPLE WHILE BEING NOBLE"like the "ripper stefan " flashback of season2....
