So, I've finished the Arcadia Trilogy by Kai Meyer (I cried and am now a member of the "Screw you, Kai" club) and now I don't know which book to buy. I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I know I've already made a thread like that, but oh well, it's about books, they're better than life.

I know some books of Kai Meyer have been translated, did anybody of you read them? (I already heard there's a Hollywood producer who wants to make movies out of the 'Stormkings' books)

I have the first book of The Hunger Games and it seems like the perfect book for me, but now that I've watched the movie and read so much spoilers on tumblr, i no longer feel excited about it, idk.

I'd be honoured if you'd give me examples that are translated into english (or german, if you know)

Hunger Games is...eh....I feel its a domesticated, censored version of Battle Royale movie. NOt exciting and too much focus on teen romances.

As for books, It depends on what you want, actually.

I really loved Chronicles of Amber book series by Roger Zelazny, especially the first earlier series of five books starring Corwin. Very unique antiheroic main character and a blend of modern setting and fantasy arthurian mythos.

Then you have the Parasol Protectoriate series starring a Victorian-era woman who  happens to loose her soul and gets invovled into the intrigues of the high-class society that is apparantly very paranormal-ridden.

Then you have Jim Butcher's Dresden files book series that is mroe of modern-contemporary fantasy setting set in chicago full of vampires, wizards, ghosts, gods and all that other stuff. Stars ~20 year old wizard, Harry, who works as a detective, and by a chance, through a case he accidentally picked up, gets involved into a huge supernatural conspriacy involving his parents, Harry's uncle Harry has killed himself and a war between vampires and wizards.

Then there's Neil Gainman's American Gods book series that mix the americana setting with the deity mythologies of all over the world.

Also Guild Hunter series by nalini singh starring a team of vampire hunter and angel.  The lore focuses on vampires, humans, angels and most importantly the most cruel, unpredictable and manipulative of them akll - archangels, each of them trying to play everything else for his own ends.

I pretty much just read Fantasy and Horror. I cringe everytime there's a love story in the describtion. xD

Read the first book and agreed. There are SO many scenes that remind me of BR.

Pretty much the only books I've seen in my book store are the Dresden Files and Parasol something (that one seems kinda good tho). How many books do that Parasol thingy and the Guid Hunter series have?

A Song of Fire and Ice series is amazing.

ditto. thats why I usually read stuff like a Song of Ice and FIre or Dresden Files because those authors really tend to nuke the ships and deconstruct the rose-tinted-glasses view on romance.

Thats kinda given considering both of those are sort of big thing, with every new book coming out staying in the top 3 of new york best seller lists every time for months.

Both of them are going to go for at least 20 books(Dresden is confirmed to be 22 books total and Parasol is well, unknown, but could go as long as ~30)

Parasol currently has total of:

Soulless (2009) Changeless (2010) Blameless (2010) Heartless (2011) Timeless (2012)

Though I should warn you, Parasol is quite romance heavy.

A Song of Fire and Ice series is amazing.

That requires some of masochism though. And most likelyw e will enver see the end of those books because the guy takes AGES to write them and most likely will die before finishing. Seriously last book tookw hat 5? 10? years to come out because he has written himself into a corner?

Isn't aSoFaI that book where everyone dies and have lots of sex? And with that german actress in the TV Show where everyone bitches about her accent, lol? THAT is in my book store too.

And I've found that Soulless book on Amazon (in german), probably gonna buy it when I have money, since it only costs 6 €.

Though I should warn you, Parasol is quite romance heavy.

Like what? My last "romance heavy" book was a porn ...

And any sort of happiness, favorite characters or hope usually gets dead.

Its the kind of the world where being honorable would earn you death and being a complete unrepentant asshole would increase your life expectancy.

Think: twilight in victorian times.

Given its written in WAY BETTER quality than twilight. The main idea still stands. She falls in love with werewolf, they solve stuff, go through stuff together, marry, etc. The good thing is that the books do not really take themselves that seriously and are quite self-aware.

Vampire Diaries Quotes

You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure, and even a little danger... I want you to get everything you're looking for. But for right now, I want you to forget that this happened. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet. Goodnight, Elena.

Damon

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
