I think I am still in shock! Totally didn't expect that! How utterly heartbreaking! WHY, OH WHY would Julian Fellows do something like this to us?! She was the sweetest character on the show! The only one everyone loved for crying out loud! How sad was the scene with the dowager countess and carson at the end?! My eyes are puffy from all the crying...
On a side note, what is wrong with mary and matthew? Must they fight in every episode? They were my favourites but why is he making them so unlikable this season?! Last few episodes mary was being bitchy for no reason and now matthew wants to talk business right after what happened to sybill?! I hope they get back their old personalities soon cause they are getting really annoying...

Apparently dan stevens wanted out from the show so fellowes had to kill matthew off....I know the actors are free to do as they please and there's nothing wrong with wanting to do somthing different but right now I really hate him, for leaving the show and ruining everything!
First sybill and branson now mary and matthew. All romance in this show is dead now. It seems that if someone has a baby at downton someone else has to die! I watched live and it totally ruined my christmas day! I wonder what will happen in season 4 now...I almost wish it had stopped with season 3 with everyone happy instead of another season of gloom and grief...

dan favoured a lot of hate tweets about him and michelle dockery (DONT INSULT THE QUEEN STEVENS BURN IN HELL AJHJASDASD) on twitter and wrote something like "happy downton abbey day! happy hound bum day"
fellowes was literally BEGGING stevens to do at least the first 2 episodes of series 4, so he could somehow write him off without killing him. but stevens wasn't having any of it. he wants to have "greater roles" and "become famous in america". dan, have you seen your perfomance in series 3? do you think anybody will give two shits about you in either america or england after leaving downton??
jessica left too, but at least she didn't give a shitass interview MINUTES after the episode aired. and she actually wanted to continue the series but her schedule was so full (stevens' is empty atm) that she couldn't.

Yes I agree! That interview was awful! He should have some loyalty to the show that made him famous! He was nothing before downton and while I understand that as an actor he wants to do other things he should also take in consideration his fan's feelings. His decision changed the whole series! The mary/matthew dynamic was the center of the show and now it's gone... I even read somewhere that mary will have a new suitor (though the article said that it could be someone we already know which can only mean: richard carlisle or godforbid branson), which would probably be even worse! I mean, she just lost the love of her life, the father of her child, and then a few months later she starts flirting with someone else?! That would ruin mary's character and diminish the love story between mary/matthew.
At the moment, I'm really worried about season 4...season 3 wasn't so great, even though it had some great moments and now everything has changed...
