OT: Grimm

  1.

A police detective Nick Burkhardt is a happy soon-to-be-married man, living a normal, even if a bit bizzare life, solving murders, planning to propose to his would-be-wife and overall being a normal guy.

Till, one day, after visiting a crime scene of very grisly murder of a girl in red coat, Nick starts seeing things he can't comprehend. Just for a second, people in the street, in the mall, in the police station. Some people changing into grotesque and strange beings, but just for a split second.

His life is blown apart the night of proposal to his wife, when suddenly, without notice his Aunt comes to visit. Dying from cancer and having only weeks if not days to life, she finally has mustered the strength to tell him about his family's dark secret and the true nature and burden of being born into the bloodline that dates back to the infamous Brothers Grimm.

Every fairy tale is real. Everything that brothers Grimm documented happens again and again and again in a circle of strange events. The Grimm Bloodline have the power to see the true faces of those beings hiding among humans. And currently Nick Burkhardt is the last Grimm alive....and they, the so called Reapers of The Grimms and all those who know, will be coming for him too.

    -  The official premiere is  Oct 28th on NBC. -

Story-wise its written by some of the writers from ATS writing staff(specifically David Greenwalt, co-producer of Buffy and co-creator of ATS) and it frankly feels. While pilot is quite frantic in its nature, In a lot of shots you could just replace Nick with Angel or Wesley and it would make sense. Complete with cruel and unusually what the hell cliffhanger at the very end of the pilot.

Sometimes it even sounds similar, because D.Greenwalt apparantly loves the whole cello soundtrack stuff. Hell the main theme tune pretty much sounds like slower ATS themesong.

I'm excited for the premiere. I loved Buffy and Angel and so I'm dying to see Grimm.

  3. Frankly when compared to those shows while writing is around ATS level, it lacks strong female lead so far.

in BTVS we had well, Buffy, Cordy, Willow and half the cast being badass female leads.

in ATS we had Cordy, Illirya, Lilah.

In this so far we had aunt. Hopefully along the way we will get some female leads as so far we had total of two female characters to about 9 recurring male characters introduced.

  4. And the pilot airings did extremely well so far !

6.5 million viewers for a friday night when going against world series is a huge achievement for this show. Critic response so far is quite good too so hopefully this one sticks around longer than previous supernatural NBC shows.

Yeah, I liked it. I can't wait for next episode. I think, like you said, that they need a bad to the bone female lead or two.

  6. So far I am quite surprised to certain similarities to the whedonverse:

    • You have a normal clueless person, who is a bit genre-savy, but not too much.
    • You have the whole Chosen One by blood tirade being delivered by an older person arriving into the clueless lead's life  just as all the bad stuff is about to start going down.
    • You have the potential "scoobies" (bad wolf, his police partner, etc).
    • You have "Joyce" (lead's fiance this time instead of mother)
    • You have blonde evil female and her boss starting to do bad stuff in town.
    • You have shots of town, procedural elements and quirky humor.

All the things to fill the void that ATS/BTVS left are there. Now if only the acting got significantly better(which is possible since BTVS acting in S1 was also so-so till it got better A LOT), we got a badass lead females and the ratings held and improved.

Yeah, you said everything I was feeling. I'm hoping the acting does get better and I hope we get hotter guys to join the cast (like James Marsters on BTVS),

  10. Why do you want a FEMALE lead so bad:O? I am actually curious:)0

    1. Female leads usually are awesome.
    2. Good Female lead to counter-balance the good male lead is pretty much required for the show to not be sexist mess what Supernatural is right now.
    3. Having a female lead that is capable and independent adds interesting interactions and dynamics.
