OT: Teen Wolf
I'm sorry but this show completely and utterly sucks! Someone forced me to watch season 1 with them and I think I felt the way you(Bored Now) felt like when you watched TVD S3. There's no depth to the lead whatsoever, just another whiny and horny teenager, the story is predictable. I never feel like there are any real stakes in this show. The only limelight was the female witch hunter, who was actually amazing, and by the end of the season I was wishing she succeeded in killing all the werewolves, that's how much I disliked/didn't care for any of the main characters(except the popular dude). This show probably reminds you of the first seven TVD s1 episodes, because the rest of TVD's s1 is on a complete other level of excellence.Posted 6/8/2012 7:53:32 AM #
I'd rather watch 90210 for fapworthy guys and that show is the equivalent of nails scratching on a board. I kept thinking while watching this show, it's made for kids between 10 and 14, which is a bit too explicit at times, thus the bit more action it has. TVD has no good special effects, but rather that than this show's effects, which look completely fake. If you guys want to give MTV shows a shot, try Awkward. It's amazing, get's great reviews and the lead was nominated for a critic's association award for her work on the show.Posted 6/8/2012 7:59:45 AM #

Not seeing that.
Scott has a tangible personal conflict of who he is versus who he was and who he wants to be. We actually get to see his everyday struggle and his hobbies, school sitaution, personality traits, etc. He is not a saint or a mormon. He is very flawed, selfish, self-absorbed and very teenagerish. Very, for the lack of better word, real(unlike elena cardboard) and at the same time manages to be a bit of an asshole.
A lot of the show managed to dwelve between his personal conflicts of his romance, his dream of future(sports) and his more supernatural sucky destiny that befell him.
Going by character depth the side characters did come off as a bit weaker, but they got a whole lot m ore spotlight as show progressed.
the story is predictable
Not seeing that too. So far the twists the show pulled off managed to be both shocking and real and make sense.
I never feel like there are any real stakes in this show.
On the opposite actually. There's no magic spells, no back-to-life rings, no ghosts. who dies, dies and I end up fearing for every character introduced every second, With the tone the show has set, its very easy to believe that ANY of those characters could die. And the show does not need to kill a dozen of extra characters to achieve that even.
The only limelight was the female witch hunter, who was actually amazing,
ORLY? Cosnidering she was the only character int his show whom i fucking absolutely hated. It was satisfying to see her get commeupance, but then again, apart from Allison, all Argents are horrible psychotic assholes that deserve death, so no surprise. Which is good because viewers are supposed to hate the entire Argent family.

Certainly better effects that TVD's lolframeskip and hey, at least we have REAL weewolves, instead of TVD's were-doggies. Then again, I still hold BTVS spec.effects in high regard as one of the best tv fx and fight choereographies.

Eww, sorry no. Saw a bit of first episode. Reminded me of the shit that is Glee mixed with Hannah Montana and trying to rip off Veronica Decides to Die. then again, apart from Teen Wolf, MTV completely and utterly sucks.Posted 6/8/2012 9:06:25 AM #

Don't wanna get much into it, because this has been talked about;P
I agree that the choreography of BtVS is pretty good, but the effects are not. If the special effects cause distraction from the story(unless that's the point), they are bad. A lot of BtVS's effects are distracting because they are so bad.Posted 6/8/2012 11:43:09 AM #
well you know my position on that already.
Then again, I am someone who would take more tangible effects in JAWS over fake "uber quality" crapfest of Avatar, so :)Posted 6/8/2012 11:46:05 AM #

Charmed had way better special effects and make up, because they had Tori Spelling's daddy funding them with shitloads of money.Posted 6/8/2012 11:55:31 AM #
I don't agree with Avatar either. It sucks.Posted 6/8/2012 11:56:05 AM #
Well, fx never distracted me. I can calmly watch Primeval and be on my toes without worrying that some dinosaurs do not blend into the scenery or something.
The only times CG (non)quality really annoyed me was Buffy's first season's "I Robot, You Jane" , TVD's frameskip bullshit, goooey red powers in third season of Heroes and the horror that was Smallville.Posted 6/8/2012 12:04:55 PM #

Yeah, thats why I exclude charming from any comparisons. Its a mini-movie series with a bilionaire budget. and its surprsiing that even with that budget some stuff came off incredibly horrible.Posted 6/8/2012 12:06:15 PM #
