How do you analyse that? It would make sense, if he all of the sudden is protecting her, because he 'saved' her from the three evil guys and did not come after her, but why would he want to keep her safe?
Do you really think that he is evil?

I think he doesn't want Klaus to undo the spell..........don't ask me why, but I think that he wants to protect Elena..........maybe he needs something from her........... Oh, oh, oh......just thought of an option right know........
WHAT IF ELIJAH IS THE FATHER OF KATHERINE'S BABY??????? After all Uncle John turned out to be Elena's father......Elijah could be Katherine's baby's father!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome thought! WOW! I wonder if you're right? That would be an interesting twist.
One observation, Elijah can already get out and about in the sunlight so he probably doesn't care so much bout breaking the moonstone curse. Klaus does. I think Elijah might want to overthrow Klaus as "head vamp".

that scene was one that left me thinking alot. i was shocked because it didn't make sense. he mentioned in this episode that he realised that damon and stefan would risk their lives to protect her and so he spared damon but why then and not when he arrived in the abandoned mansion in an earlier episode?
the big question is not whether he is evil but why does he want elena safe?
we saw in katerina in one of the flashbacks that he was working with others to find katherine and bring her to klaus so why does he not want to turn elena into klaus and make sure he doesn't find out about her?

Maybe because he doesn't care about what happens to Katherine......but wants to protect Elena........cause she's part of his lineage!!!

OMG!!! teamdamon4eva i just had the same thought that elijah might be the father of katherine's baby so that would explain that he wants to protect elena because she's like he's great great grat great daughter or something. it also explains that he wanted to know katherine's wearabouts in an earlier episode!

But was he ever really working with Klaus? Or was he also trying to help Katherine excape? We saw Katherine was bleeding while running away. We have also seen newbie vampiers be able to smell out blood and where it is coming from. I'm guessing Originals have always been very powerful, it doesn't just come with age. So there should have been no way for Trevor to be able to lead him away from Katherine, if he didn't want to be lead away. He may have even compelled Trevor to do it, as his fall guy to throw Klaus off Elijah's trail. He was actually the one in love with Katherine, and now Elana. These two girls have strange powers over these guys.

'Keep her safe until we need her' Which means when they need her, that's the moment she won't be safe cos she's in their hands..

Well, think about it.......what isn't possible in TVD????? huh????
Elijah could be the baby's father after all.....he's an original.....he can walk in the sunlight......he can compell other vampires.......he could even be able to be a father.....even by being a vampire......I mean he is an original, which means he was one of the very first ones..........so he could be a vampire who can procreate!!!!!!!
Maybe Klaus pissed Elijah off.....and know he wants him dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol
