there might be a goof???

So i've just finished watching the season finale and sth doesn't seem to be very logical to me. Maybe i misunderstood it somehow or may be it was actually a mistake???
The thing is we know that stefan was turned in 1864 and he became a "ripper" ... but not until lexi came along and helped him to be "good stefan". It was during the civil war or at its end so around 1865-66 i supposed. So stefan was supposed to remain like that, i mean with humanity ever since, right? But then klaus said that he wiped out an entire village in 1917, about 50 years after the 1864 event. So even after lexi's help stefan was still vicious? Or shall i understand like he still struggled with his nature half of century later? Or is there a real mistake?
I mean i'm clueless here so please give me a reasonable explanation. Thanks :)

Didn't Klaus also ask Stefan "Sound familar?" (or something to that effect) after teling that story? I think it was just Klaus referring to the kind of person that Stefan used to be by giving an example of another vampire.
That's just my guess though. It is possible that, like you said, he struggled with that nature of himself after meeting Lexi. I have a feeling they might be giving us some nice flashbacks in season 3, so maybe we'll find out then :)

The 1917 story was about Stefan. Klaus also said he had been on the wagon and off again several times. Even in this short time in Mystic Falls we have seen him fall off the wagon and then get back on. It is something he has always struggled with and always will.

What @drich was right he got it right exactly Klaus specifically said that this vampire (Stefan) was on again off again as he struggled to regain his humanity and that Klaus like the OFF side more than the ON side when he would switch his emotions on and off. Klaus was simply referring to what Stefan would become when he switched all his emotions off.

Thanks XxLuLuxX, but he wasn't actually talking about switching on and off emotion. He was talking about on human blood and off human blood. Off the band wagon as like an alcoholic drinking blood, on the band wagon as not drinking human blood.

that definitely explained a lot. stefan has always been struggling with the monster inside him. that's why klaus said "on and off the wagon". thanks a lot guys :D
