Why are all the witches black? Also I love how I see no other races on the show except for white and black. It's not as diverse as it should be. Kind of reminding me of gossip girl (=pure bullshit).

I had a discussion with my media sociology class about this. Many producers and writers are not cognizant of how unrealistic shows are when they fail to bring diversity into the equation. One reason I love The Good Wife is because the producers comprehend that the world that we live in doesn't have one group of people of one race or ethnicity.

Let's be honest though. CW has a track record of shows where--if you are lucky--you might see one character of another ethinicity. People think that this doesn't matter, but it is a form of representation, which according to sociology and gender studies does create a platform to interpret the world in a one sided way.

I kind of find it disgusting.

This show, penned by a person who is OPENLY HOMOSEXUAL(KW), so far has been very conservative with, well, EVERYTHING, starting with race, gender, same sex relationships, etc.

So far black people have been two things: Witches. Dead. The ONLY known homosexual character, Bill, got his whole sexual preference brushed off and washed away and is a clear badguy, using conditioning techniques no less, something  that was used against homosexuality in was it 60's to 90's, if I remember correctly, right? Way to be subtle. Had Liz not made comment in S1 about him being homosexual, we WOULD NOT EVEN KNOW THAT, sadly. Again, I am not asking the show to just throw everything and EVERYTHING into itself for the sake of being politically correct, no matter how forced nor strange it feels(*cough*Glee*cough*), but the show with someone as KW in the lead, SHOULD have the balls to treat same-sex relationships as NORMAL relationships and NOT shy away from them. BTVS was based upon TVD books and it litterally broke the ice for the same sex relationships on TV, for one actually portraying a gay man in positive and likeable light, having a same-sex relationship ON SCREEN, having same sex KISS(es) on screen and having same-sex sec scene on screen. And whats important everything that was perfectly incorporated into the show and did not feel "fake" and especially it did not feel like it was thrown there just to make a point or something. It felt natural. Its pitiful that TVD-tv show, the supposed REAL adaptation of TVD books fails to even merit even one milionth of that.   Then we have the obvious misogyny and sexism this show portrays. We have total one useful and kickass female character. That is Caroline. The main character, Elena, got a personality demotion at the start of the show BECAUSE WRITERS FELT SHE IS NOT FEMININE AND NOT VULNERABLE ENOUGH? So far in most of love relationships(if one can call it that way) in this show, male side has always, ALWAYS been the dominant one.  Not even one relationship was directly started by a female. And then we have the whole Matt/Caroline debacle of Season 2, not to mention whole DES triangle smelling of misogyny and dysfunctionality.

For a show penned by someone who has been very open about his sexual preference and who did NOT shy away from himself, I'd have expected a lot more liberal views upon stuff like gender roles, racial bias or same sex relationships. Sadly apparantly its not the case with the show.

Although I would NOT call it racist. Utterly Conservative and stuck-up would be better term.

At the same time, let's take into account the capitalist structure of media ownership as well. I do not lay the blame specifically at one person, but it is a FACT that the producers and writers can only pull the puppet strings so much. They are not the real puppet masters in this little game, especially when we look at other factors and constraints that may have been based on the production-oriented system to bring forth this show.

Speaking of the good wife though, I haven't watched that show but Greys Anatomy is pretty diverse to me, and all the characters are pretty likeable. Except fucking Arizona and April

^procedurals have a tendency to be VERY politically correct, sometimes even ridiculously overdoing it(one show, i forgot which, had a cast of 2 afroamerican, 2 asian, 2 white characters, female and male each and one pairing was straight, other homosexual and the other bisexual, too bad the show's name escapes me now)

Its way different matter with genre shows of serialized nature or soaps. Especially on current CW.

That's cool Flora. It is unfortunate that TVD doesn't exercise the same ability.:)

Trevinos Tyler is Mexican. Obviously Bonnie and Anna are culturally diverse. Nina is Eastern European. What are we talking about here? Do we want producers to specifically target a certain race or go for the better actor at a better price? Do we want race mentioned on the shoe or culture? Should Trevinos Tyler mention Aztec culture on the show?

What is culturally diverse? I don't have to look "black" to be African. I don't have to look "ethnic" to be different. Its all bullsh*t really. How do you know what an actor is if they don't mention it? You rely on wiki? There is no cookie cutter answers, fact is are you sayin Irish isn't ethnic? Cause it is culturally divrse but to YOU ita not. It sounds like a personal problem. I'm half African but I'm so light skinned most people have no idea and confuse me with white. What is white anymore? We are all diverse culturally

If you are addressing me Cora, let me tell you what research states. Even though according to my professors and other sociologists race and ethnicity cannot be defined by looks, the past has significantly proven that people do in fact categorize based on appearances. To argue this is not the case, is to insult the history of slavery, discrimination, and every other facet of evil misconceptions that has been intrinsically exercised on this Earth to hurt others.

And I know this may come as a surprise dear, but you do not corner the market on diversity. I come from a multicultural family: white, black, hispanic, etc. Your attitude or disposition on the issue means shit to me.

Vampire Diaries Quotes

You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure, and even a little danger... I want you to get everything you're looking for. But for right now, I want you to forget that this happened. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet. Goodnight, Elena.

Damon

Damon: You know what they are? Children. Like lighting a candle's going to make everything OK, or even saying a prayer. Or pretending Elena's not going to end up just like the rest of us murdering vampires. Stupid, delusional, exasperating little children. And I know what you're going to say: 'It makes them feel better, Damon.' So what? For how long? A minute, a day? What difference does it make? Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be. And a rock with a birthday carved into it that I'm pretty sure is wrong. So thanks, friend. Thanks for leaving me here to babysit. Because I should be long gone by now. I didn't get the girl, remember? I'm just stuck here fighting my brother and taking care of the kids. You owe me big.
Alaric: I miss you too, buddy.
