Does Professor Gellar actually exist on Dexter? Or is he a figment of Travis' imagination?

The question in not whether Gellar exists or is real, but whether he is still alive in Season Six and commiting these DDK murders. It's well documented in the show that Gellar was an actual professor at a university and his former students all attest to his existance in the past. But he seems to be a vision or ghost now, not a living person. I agree that since only Travis ever sees him or talks to him, it's likely that Travis killed Gellar not long ago and then started on the DDK spree to carry on his legacy.

He is real. Travis is the one who sees him in person but there are physical pictures of him and people remember him and had classes with him and all that. Before that I would have said maybe he was not real but now we know he has to be real. If he was just a part of Travis' imagination half the shit that happened on the show couldn't have happened.

If Gellar isn't real, did Travis knock himself out with a shovel and chain himself in the church?

Well, Professor Gellar is definitely real. or at least was. Unless Travis is such a genius he planted fake articles on websites and fake memories into people's heads. For this theory to be plausible we'd have to discover the real Professor Gellar has been dead for a while, at least. I think it's a way too obvious script and @Alex Roggio will just seem like an arrogant douchebag if and or when it turns out to be wrong. In my OPINION, Dexter wouldn't do something so cliché.

@Linda It did not CROSS Your mind??? Are we watching the same show? The fact that Gellar is obviously part of Travis' mind is oblivious to Dexter, but we the audience are supposed to be in on it! I find it ridiculous that 64% of people think Gellar is real, it's like they aren't even watching the same show. Travis is the only one who sees him, no one ever speaks to Gellar, not the waitress, not the prisoners, no one. Gellar disappeared into nowhere when Dexter was looking for him! What's wrong with you people, seriously?

The possiblity never crossed my mind that Gellar was fictitious...I do not think he is, or maybe I am hoping he is not...That would be a bit schmarmy in my humble opinion... I have to say, I have loved every season of Dexter, but almost wasn't as eager for this one to begin...My reasoning was...Where can they go from here? I don't see how it could be any better than any previous seasons..Boy was I wrong...I have loved every episode...I am so happy to know that it has already been given the go ahead for two more...
