Thomas was going through this treatment to try to turn "straight." Violet doesn't necessarily hate Jews. Her views on this are not actually given. However, there was an overriding sentiment against Jews in 1920s Europe. See WWII. She may just not want rose to get involved in what could prove to be a difficult relationship. (Note that Cora is half jewish, so she was okay with it enough when the family needed money). And yes, more people convert to Catholicism than Judaism because 1. Catholicism is a more accepted faith and 2. The Catholic Church historically has stricter marriage laws regarding the practicing faiths of those getting married.
@Mysterious. Thanks for clearing that up. I figured as much for most of them, but I was especially confused about Dan. One would think a writer especially would want to finish their education, maybe even continue on to get an MFA. But obviously there would be nothing else to learn past the age of 20. I'm sure his skills are fully developed.
Aren't these guys supposed to be juniors in college (minus Chuck)? When did ALL of them just stop going to school? Did I miss that episode?
