great episode and review :)
This episode was very rushed and intense... almost jaggedy like that movie 'Black Swan." I think it was an effect they were going for but I didn't like it. I like the soft pop of your general Empire episode. I disagree with you about Frida. I think she is the most talented artist and the show, and I love her voice, and raw energy. I'm starting to get a little bit bored of Cookie and Lucious having more or less the exact same conversation and argument every single episode, it's sort of repetitive - and it doesn't go anywhere. Hakeem looked seriously damaged from what happened, as usual Empire rushed through 20 plots at break neck speed, and as it does when it reaches any serious topic, it didn't really let the audience have any time to really explore the real issue because we didn't understand what was going on. I have a feeling Anika will fall pregnant after her encounter with Hakeem - it seems to be the only reason they would have highlighted that whole scene. The scene with the three brothers, was as usual, quite moving. It was the first episode I've liked Andre in all season. When he told his parents to clear out and let him and Jamaal talk to Hakeem, it was the first time he actually took control of a situation and it looked good on him.
I thought all the episode was funny. Lily might not have many lines because she has probably started school now, and they might be trying to cut back on her involvement in the show slightly to give her some token chance at a bit of a normal childhood. I actually really liked seeing Mitch and Jay bond. I know they stereotype Dylan a lot but I found it really entertaining, especially seeing Phil and then Claire snap. I don't think Luke has been giving a stereotype teenage identity at all. The fact he would ditch two college girls to stay with his sister is saying a lot for his family values. I thought the episode was super cute. Maybe a little stereotyped, but I mean it's Modern Family, that's how it rolls
