A Colonel named Foster staged a coup, killing the military leaders and taking control of Spearhead. Jones managed to escape, eventually starting Project Splinter in an attempt to undo the plague. Back in the past, Cole finds himself wounded and trapped in Wexler's bombed Chechnyan compound. Meanwhile, Cassie and Aaron get Senator Royce to approve a trip to Chechnya in order to investigate the virus. She also wants to make sure no one survived the bombing. At Spearhead, Whitley and Ramse meet with Colonel Foster, but he refuses to turn over the manifold. He argues that Jones is messing with the natural order of things, his supercomputers are working on a cure. Ramse bumps into Elena, the love of his life. She introduces him to Sam, and Ramse quickly realizes the boy is his as well. Jones makes one last attempt to bring Cole home, but is unable to depleting the Core in the process. She decides to visit Spearhead herself, and meet with Foster. Jones makes it clear she needs Foster's entire Core now. He laughs at her brazen attitude, but does not go along with her plan. Back at Project Splinter, Jones tells her team Foster found a cure to the 2033 mutation; he's nowhere near a cure for the latest mutation.They will have to take the Core by force. In Chechnya, Cassie arrives and bribes a cab driver to bring her near the bomb site. Once there, she that no one could have suvived and assumes Cole was erased. However, our hero did survive, but the twist is the attempts to bring him home dropped him off two years in the future in 2017. That's right, Cole is stuck in 2017 at the height of the plague.
