When you watch American Crime Season 1 Episode 11, you'll see how one life can spiral out of control. Upon hearing about Carter being released from prison, Russ is determined to throw the law at Carter and tries to get Barb involved. Barb tells Russ she is done fighting and it's time they both try to move on with their lives because it's only going to lead them down a dark path. Russ decides to turn to Gwen's father for advice, but he ignores Russ. Russ decides to go looking for Carter and when he finds him, he shoots him in the head killing him instantly. At the hospital, when Aubry hears the news of Carter's death, she can't deal with the notion of Carter not being out there in the world and takes her own life. In a shocking turn of events, Russ's fate is revealed when Barb is called into the hospital to identify Russ's body -- it turns out he took his own life after killing Carter. Meanwhile, Hector gets out of the charges against him because the witness never shows up and they don't know when he will show up. Thankfully this gives Hector another chance at life and this time around he is doing things differently and is trying to provide for his family in an honest way.
