Blue Bloods Season 12 Episode 11 revolves around the need to enforce rules that some people consider useless.

When Sid receives intel that a highly respected police captain is using her badge to get unreasonable numbers of free items from local stores, Frank feels he must investigate. Talking with Captain Tyrell yields only the revelation that she is asking stores to donate free goods to local veterans centers. Frank tells her if she stops this immediately he will only issue her a warning. She asks for time to think about it.

Meanwhile, Jamie runs into opposition from his officers when he tries to reinstitute a front desk salute that hasn't been used in 100 years. Jamie feels that since it's in the rule book, it should be done. His officers think he is being ridiculous and make fun of him and Eddie, stopping every time Eddie comes into the room.

Elsewhere, Erin is upset when she finds out that someone has posted malicious gossip about her online and Danny is determined to take down a Jimmy Buffett impersonator that fooled him into paying for an expensive dinner.
