Blue Bloods Season 12 Episode 3 revolves around family expectations.

When Sean asks to ride along with Eddie and Witten, he claims it's for a school project and that Danny has given his permission. However, Sean fails to follow directions and goes after a suspect by himself, which lands him in the hospital when the guy punches him. Danny blames Jamie and Eddie for assuming Sean was being honest with them and not checking with him ahead of time, while Sean tells Jamie he talks to him because Danny never listens.

Meanwhile, Frank doesn't know what to do when his old friend Lenny offers him a new job as head of security at the NFL. The job offer sounds exciting to him, plus it would make it easier for Erin to run for DA if her father wasn't the police commissioner anymore. Lenny encourages Frank to put himself first for once, but Frank isn't sure what that means.

Elsewhere, Danny and Baez investigate the case of a food delivery man who is shot to death while making his deliveries and quickly realize that his death had to do with tension in the family.
