On Blue Bloods Season 9 Episode 12, Danny and Baez are called to the scene when a college basketball star is murdered. They are met by Officer Walsh, who is super enthusiastic about the team and the case. The prime suspect soon becomes Joshua Taylor, a fellow basketball star who might have been murdered by the victim, but Danny does some digging and finds out that something else is at play here: Joshua recently threw a game in order to help a bookie make money off of bets.

Danny and Baez re-interview Joshua, who is reluctant to cooperate but doesn't want to go to jail. He tells them where the bookie is and they enter to find him being held at gunpoint by Walsh, who lost a lot of money on a bet and feels the bookie is ruining the game.

Meanwhile, Jamie's latest ride-along is an older guy who is usually on desk duty and doesn't seem to want to work in the field. His new ride-along freezes up on a call and gets held at knifepoint. Later, he refuses to follow direct orders when Jamie wants to take an injured victim to the hospital in the back of his police car. But in between, he manages to give Jamie some advice that causes a problem between Jamie and Eddie as they plan their wedding.

Erin is given the job of sentencing a teenage girl who killed a four-year-old while driving under the influence of drugs. The defense comes forward with a psych evaluation at the last minute, which offers a credible claim that the girl was self-medicating when she committed the crime.The victim's mother expects Erin to push for a harsh penalty while Erin is inclined to agree with the defense's argument.
