The next morning, his parents go about their day until the terrifying realization hits that Danny has gone missing. Meanwhile, friend of the family Detective Ellie Miller has been looked over for a promotion. At the scene of the crime she meets her new partner and the man that took her job, Detective Emmett Carver. When Ellie realizes the identity of the victim, she puts her feelings aside in an effort to solve this homicide. It isn't long before the boy's mother, Beth, runs down to the beach and recognizes the boy's sneakers. Later that day, Carver and Miller inform the Solano family that their young son was a victim of foul play and a homicide investigation is under way. Beth mentions Danny's wildlife group, which makes Jack Reinhold a suspect. Since this type of crime is unheard of in Gracepoint, the press immediately jump on the case. On a hunch, Ellie's nephew, Owen, leaks the victim's name. This catches the attention of a big time reporter and she makes her way to the small town. When security camera footage of Danny skateboarding down the street is discovered, Ellie realizes his skateboard and cell phone are missing. Ellie's son, Tom, was Danny's best friend. Why does he have the phone and better yet why did he erase all of Danny's text messages? Tom also deletes the content of his entire hard drive. As the clues begin to slowly unravel, everyone is a suspect. Carver and Miller will stop at nothing to bring Danny's killer to justice.
