Law & Order: SVU Season 22 Episode 9 reintroduces Elliot Stabler after a 10-year absence.

Benson is supposed to be headed to an awards ceremony but got a 10-13 call. She arrives on the scene of a car bombing. The victim is Kathy Stabler. Elliot calls her name.

It turns out Fin had invited the Stablers to the ceremony. He thought after all this time, Benson would be okay with it. Elliot never told her he was coming.

Benson asks Garland to let SVU take the case. Garland agrees if she leads, not Stabler. This quickly falls apart when Stabler insists on questioning a suspect and gets violent. Benson insists Stabler has changed but Garland is skeptical and doesn't want him near the investigation.

Kathy seems to be improving, but she suddenly goes into cardiac arrest. She's stabilized for now, but eventually her spleen ruptures and she dies. Benson comforts her old partner and offers to make calls for him. He just wants her to find the SOB who killed his wife.

However, that is not to be as Garland tells Benson SVU is off the case...
