All hail the side characters. The Penny in the underworld is back on The Magicians Season 4 Episode 7 and he's giving a newcomer to the Underworld Branch a lesson in why you can't carelessly shelve books. He shares with the newcomer, Derek, three stories of characters Derek has written off as "side characters" and attempts to show him exactly why these characters are important to the plot. He starts with Zelda, who has an idea to implement tracking devices to try and find Santa Claus and Alice after their escape, but the result has dangerous consequences for hedgewitches using personal enchantments. Which ties into Kady's plot where she begins investigating what happened after trying to acquire certain items to pay her witch landlord for rent. (Yea, you have to pay rent when you're a magician.) Meanwhile, back in Fillory, Fen is experiencing some visions that are coming true. With the help of Josh she's able to poke around the dream and discover what might actually be causing them.
